GREG BAÑAGA
PRESIDENT
ADAMSON UNIVERSITY
Remain Onward ……………………………………………………………………………………………….
The first years of his priesthood were spent giving popular missions to
some of the outlaying areas of Rizal, Bataan, Camarines Sur and
Pangasinan. His work in the missions was interrupted when he was
assigned for one and a half years as parish priest of St. Vincent de Paul
Parish, Manila. After eight years conducting rural missions he was sent to
the St. Vincent School of Theology in Quezon City to become the Director
of Students and professor of pastoral theology. He taught in that major
seminary for four years.
While working in the missions and teaching in the seminary, Fr. Gregg
was also involved with an international non-governmental organization
called the Movement for a Better World. He became the East Asian
coordinator of this group for six years and facilitated training programs in
Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Burma, Japan and Korea.
As we celebrate our 45th year anniversary, a journey to the past with our founders and senior
members will bring us to the time of memorable recollections :
A time when the feeling of overwhelming euphoria abounds among us during and
after the ceremonial final acceptance as Rho Omicronians;
A time when the feeling of camaraderie and brotherhood have never been more
intense ;
A time when being active in school as a Rho Omicronian added meaning to us in our
lives as students.
In recent years, we held get-togethers and rekindled the same spirit of camaraderie and
brotherhood ,occasionally, on birthdays and when Balikbayan brods or sis are around… for still
the bond exist and continues to persist among us. This bond seems to have become deeper as
together we worked on the preparation of the momentous event – the 45th year of our existence.
Truly, we can no longer turn back the hands of time but the spirit of camaraderie and
brotherhood with the memories are treasures and legacies, we can share with the young and the
next generation of Rho Omicronians. The RHO OMICRON SOCIETY ,our student chapter is the
next generation who, I believe, just like us , are capable of replicating our deeds and do even
more because they have us as their pillars of strength and support.
Indeed , life is like a river which continues to flow but without the verdant life around and the
tender care to sustain its pristine purity and sterling usefulness , it is dead.
COMMITTEE –IN-CHARGE
It was in 1985 when she first used the DNA technology in forensic case in a US court. On May 25, 1989,
her photo appeared in Valley Times, a California USA newspaper with the article “DNA as a New Legal
Tool in Solving Crimes.” She is a co-inventor in a number of patents related to genetic studies, co-author in
book chapters, has presented and co-authored in over 200 abstracts that have been presented in
international and US conferences. She is known as one of the genetic experts by the scientific community
and also known for her Diabetes Research Work. She is currently a Principal Scientist at Roche Molecular
System heading a research group of 12 people and manages several projects.. In 2004, she received the
Roche Presidential Award.
Dory Bugawan has an extensive publication record, including publications in many leading journals.
With her very impressive accomplishments, Dory Bugawan is a real STALWART in the field of
BIOTECHNOLOGY. But for Dory Bugawan, it takes more than these accomplishments to be a real
Adamsonian. It takes social responsibility. With that she always has a ready hand helping scientist from
different countries, especially for doctors from the Philippines. Just recently she donated instrument, and
supplies to different universities and institutions in the Philippines, including Adamson University.
Engr. Jose F. Rafols versatility as an engineer brought him to
the height he dared to achieve. Holding the degrees Bachelor of
Science in Industrial Engineering from Adamson University and
Master of Science in Management Engineering from FEATI
University, he was able to get into both the national and
international scene teaching, management and engineering
positions. Immediately after college graduation, he worked as a
quality engineer at the Darigold Milk Co., while working too as a
part time instructor at Adamson University. In 1974, he went to
Chicago, Illinois working as a Manufacturing Engineer at the
Garcy Corporation. From Manufacturing Engineer, he rose to Senior Industrial Engineer at Bell and
Howell Corporation and Bourns Medical Systems, Inc. and as Industrial Engineer Specialist at Rockwell
International Corporation. At present he is the Facilities Project Administrator of Boeing Corporation.
The awards and the recognition given to him by Boeing and Rockwell International Corporation are
testimonies of his dedicated service to the said prestigious companies. Some of these awards are: Rockwell
Engineer of the Month, Boeing Individual Recognition Award, and the Boeing Group Recognition Award.
With the Adamsonian blood-running in his veins, he is a member of several religious organization in
America. Such as Boeing Community Service, Seal Beach, California, Advisory Board, Filipino Ministry
Diocese of San Bernardino, Institute of Industrial Engineers and Adamson University Alumni Association
of Southern California.
A registered Professional Engineers at State of Wisconsin and the State of California, he also has earned
certification in Work Factor Analyst, MTM and 4M Data Analyst, TQM Team Facilitator, Salaried
Employee Team Facilitator, AutoCAD 2002, 2005 and Ergonomics.
Making it big in the tissue paper industry Renato C. is now the President and CEO of Sanitary
Care Products Asia, Inc. with the lines of products like: Sanitary Brand, Tissue, Jade Femme
Bathroom Tissue and Chee’s Brand Table Napkin. Having 26 years of experience in the Pulp and
Paper industry, his is a success stay worthy of emulation and inspiration.
Despite his successes, like tissue paper, he remains to be very beneficial and useful to all
especially to his wife and 3 children and very soft hearted to those who need his help, Indeed, this
award is just a confirmation of who he is as an Adamsonian and how worth-emulating he is.

Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific
and educational purposes, more specifically to provide recognition for a high
standard of scholarship among students in engineering and sciences: to promote
and encourage scholastic achievement by offering membership to outstanding
students; and to engender certain desirable qualities of personality, intellect, and
character among its members. Excellence among its members and relationships will
be nurtured, opportunity for leadership training provided and a lifetime of
brotherhood and sisterhood to be fostered. In the conduct of our activities, truth shall
be our quest, diligence our staff, and achievement our purpose.
The promulgation of these noble purposes has caused the Rho Omicron Fraternity
to be founded originally by 12 students from different sciences and engineering
departments at the old campus of Adamson University in 1963.
The twelve founders were: Eden Chuanico, Aureo Garay, Francisco Mataac,
Paciano Matanguihan, Natalio Sumisim, Jose F. Rafols, Rodolfo Ramos, Alex
Reyes, Felix Salvador, Rodolfo Sare, Patrocinio Sosa & Arthur Yap.
The Rho Omicron Sorority came shortly in 1969 which was originally founded by 4
students from different sciences and engineering departments of Adamson
University to support the increasing activities of the fraternity.
Potential members have to undergo the two preliminary initiation rites followed by
the one day final initiation which is also the Acceptance Day. Here shown below is
the 1971 final initiation.
The Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority was also a member of the Confederation of
Fraternities and Sororities at Adamson University. We are active participants in the
Inter-fraternity Basketball Tournament held every year. And our sorority sisters have
been our cheering squads. Some of them were candidates to the Miss Adamson
Beauty contest.
In all fairness our fraternity and sorority has been a consistent honor society at
Adamson University.
Continuing our legacy we maintain contacts with our brothers and sisters by having
reunions, e-mails or phone contacts. These keep us close together through the
years.
Remain Onward ……………………………………………………………………………………………….
Our motto have been the guiding path towards our educational and professional
journey.
”REMAIN ONWARD”
Supplemented with our code of conduct it strengthened our faith in the fulfillment of
career and quality of life.
”CODE OF CONDUCT”
2. I shall defend the constitution, strive hard to protect the good name of the fraternity
and sorority.
4. I shall endeavor to seek new frontiers, and shall not rest on exploring until the
vitality of my life is exhausted.
5. I shall not run away from hardships and difficulties. Hardships and difficulties are
insurmountable mountains who fearfully ran away from them, but are mere mole
hills for those who are really determined to go after them.
6. I shall help my brothers and sisters in times of need. For their welfare is my welfare
and their dignity is my dignity, their honor is my honor.
7. Lastly, I shall not forget to give honor where honor is due especially to the master of
us all, God. The world is full of handsome and dubious eggs called possibilities.
Shown in the next page is the Science and Technology exhibits sponsored by the
Rho Omicron Fraternity every year during the University’s Foundation Celebration.
In the picture Pat Sosa is making tours of the guests to the exhibits on science and
technology in 1966. Paciano Matanguihan built the TESLA transformer that lit a
daylight bulb for this display

REUNIONS

Brod Joe Rafols who have been resource speaker in industrial engineering in 1989,
1994, 1999, 2004 and in 2007. Shown in the picture are faculty members and 2007
participants in the industrial engineering symposium
In 1999 a letter requesting for activation of the Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority
was sent to the Office of Student Affairs. We sought the support of some faculty
members but because of the bad reputation brought by other fraternities in other
schools this request did not go far. In the late 2006 our request for activation has
been revived through letters to the Office of Student Affairs and e-mails to the Office
of the President.
Shown above is Brod Rene Sio presenting to Miss Crisostomo the load of donated
equipment.
In year 2000, $1,868 was donated to Fr. Jimmy Billeta for the schools building
construction project and in year 2006, $1,300 was donated to Fr. Gregg Banaga
through the Adamson University North America Alumni Association to support the
schools scholarship program.
We are also the only fraternity and sorority that supported the souvenir program of
the Adamson University’s 75th Homecoming Celebration.
More on the success of the Rho Fraternity and Sorority is the awarding of our brods,
Rene Sio, Joe Rafols and Sis Dory Bugawan as outstanding alumni awardees and
recipient of the “Adamsonian Award”.

Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority alumni members are scattered around the
world. They settled where they raised their families in a country that provides them
with jobs and security. Our alumni brothers and sisters are in the Philippines, United
States, Canada, Australia and in the Middle East.
We are a big family of brothers and sisters whose relationship is lifetime and
everlasting. In the last 45 years of the Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority’s
existence it is high time that a planned reunion is in he making this coming February
2008.
As part of our campus presence at Adamson University, the Rho Omicron Society
was given a three year recognition based on the Rho Omicron’ historical reputation
of supporting the university’s campus educational activities.
Members of the Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority Alumni members that meet with
Atty. Batista, Adamson University’s Director of Student Affairs.
Our alumni members in the Philippines come from various suburbs in Manila and to
travel to Adamson University because of the traffic problems will take hours, These
members come and meet to accomplished an insurmountable task with flying colors.
To them is our congratulations for their hard work.
Remain Onward ……………………………………………………………………………………………….
With the activation of Rho Omicron Society, the Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority
has now a recognized campus presence at Adamson University. Our alumni brothers
and sisters can now become active participants in academic and leadership
activities.
Campaign for recruitment of new members of the RhO Omicron Society started at
the beginning of the School Year 2007.
Some of our Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority alumni members are retired and
some are nearing retirement but most are still in the active force. Though they are
retired these retired brothers and sisters are still committed to support the Rho
Omicron Fraternity and Sorority’s charitable and scholarship project. Financially less
but more on efforts in sharing their time and talent to the community where they
resides.
With the Rho Omicron Society in full swing for recruitment, accepted members will
be folded into the Rho Omicron Fraternity and Sorority Alumni Association. Alumni
members means those who have undergone the recruitment and initiation process.
Alumni members includes those who were not fortunate to finish their undergraduate
course.
We are a big family of brothers and sisters whose relationship is lifetime and
everlasting and we will continue to do so through constant communications either by
the group e-mails, websites, tele-text and other means of communications.
As we explore the future, we continue the legacy of the Rho Omicron Fraternity and
Sorority.
