ASNAU SENATE MEETING #7 TWENTY FOURTH SESSION OFFICIAL MINUTES Date: October 28th, 2011 Date of Senate Meeting:

October 27th, 2011 Prepared by Makenzie Mastrud Senate Chair Sidney West called the Senate meeting of the 2011-2012 Senate to order at 4:00 P.M. in the Havasupai Room A & B of the University Union. Number on council: 12 Number present: 10

Roll Call The following Senators were not present at the meeting: -Zach Libby -Nate Alcorn Approval of Minutes Motion: Senator Woodhouse move to approve the minutes from the last Senate Meeting on Thursday October 13th, 2011 Second: Senator Villa Discussion: None Vote: Unanimous, the minutes from October 13th are now approved Call to the Audience Peace Corp Club is here for their Club Recognition that was tabled at the Senate Meeting on September 9th, 2011. The objective of their club is to help students with their Peace Corp application Unfinished Business Motion: Senator Lee move to vote on the Peace Corp Club Recognition Second: Senator Bingham Discussion: None

Vote: Unanimous, congratulations to the Peace Corp Club you are now officially a club on campus New Action Business Motion: Senator Walton move to vote on items a-e, Club Recognition for Students for Obama, NAU Badminton Club, Chi Alpha Epsilon Sigma Chapter, Northern Arizona University Gates Millennium Scholars, and Naturopaths International Chapter Second: Senator Buchta Discussion: None Vote: Unanimous, congratulations to Students for Obama, NAU Badminton Club, Chi Alpha Epsilon Sigma Chapter, Northern Arizona University Gates Millennium Scholars, and Naturopaths International Chapter you are all now clubs on campus Motion: Senator Cross move to vote on items f and g, OA: Sigma Chi Fraternity for $500 and Sigma Chi Fraternity Senate Bill 24-17 for $2,600 Second: Senator Barnes Discussion: Senator Lee states the cost of the event and concern about it not being open enough to students when it is the students money that is being used, he would like to know how this will benefit students at NAU Response from audience states that NAU alumni will be in attendance and they give back to NAU, this is the first time the banquet has ever been hosted and 35 alumni have already confirmed their attendance- there will be a total of 100 people including the students who wish to attend, the cost does not include the salary for the severs Vote: Eight Senators vote yes, two Senators abstain, congratulations to Sigma Chi fraternity your OA and Senate Bill have been approved for a total of $3,100 Motion: Senator Buchta move to vote on items h and I, OA: Soceity of Hispanic Professional Engineers for $500 and Senate Bill 24-18 Society of Hispanic Engineers for $2,300 Second: Senator Villa Discussion: Senator Lee wants to know how the event will benefit the students of NAU Response from the audience states that the members attending the national conference are planning to come back and recruit freshman and new students and provide them with information on what they learned

Vote: Seven Senators vote yes and three abstained, congratulations Soceity of Hispanic Professional Engineers your OA and Senate Bill have been passed for a total of $2,800 Executive report a. President- Blaise Caudill b. Vice President of Student affairs- Sammy Smart -Homecoming tailgate went really well, nest tailgate is on Novemeber 4th so plan to help out with that - Horns were also very successful and we just received more in the mail so we will be handing those out next game c. Vice President of Academic Affairs- Sidney West -Hours are do, please turn them in -Mary Lou should hopefully be back on Tuesday -Please work on forums d. Chief of Staff- Chloe Olson -Carnival went really well thank you for every one who helped out, please fill out suggestion form -ASNAU Study Abroad Scholarship is coming up, the committee is going over candidates soon Staff Reports A. ASA- Chelsea Byers, Wes Enns, Jenn Hancock - We have executive ASA board here, we are focusing on financial aid for the next couple weeks, please join the Pell support Facebook page and post pictures B. Public Relations- Julia Lesniak - No Announcements C. Special events- Caitlin Heck, Rachel Rogala - Last call for entertainment suggestions for the concert in the Spring -Want to have a Christmas party on December 8th or 9th, more to come D. NSO- Erick Gonzalez, Heather Reeves -ASNAU NSO social, taco night, look at the Facebook group, social with just NSO-thanksgiving themed, bowling night social with S.T.A.R coming up too Committee Reports A. Hal Bingham Meeting with Dean on Friday and Meeting on Monday with all of the clubs and organizations involved in the College of Business to give a speechon what ASNAU can do for them C. Anthony Buchta Working on a bill with Ryan for our Dean for auditorium seats D. Samantha Cortez Working with multiple clubs to write bills E. Samantha Cross Working on OA F. Ryan Lee Working on an OA and IA G. Zach Libby No announcements H. Annsley Niemann Sammy and I are trying to work something out with our Dean I. Matthew Villa Have meeting with Nate tomorrow with our Dean J. Gavin Walton Shayla and I met with our Dean and in the works of an OA K. Shayla Woodhouse Sitting on Green Fund committee tomorrow, met with Dean and discussed how to prepare students for the real world L. Sally Barnes: Spoke with dean about preparing students for the real work world, working with Native American Culture Center Advisor Reports (Rick Brandel and Art Farmer) Rick Brandel Thank you everyone for helping out with Homecoming Art Farmer Next Friday Homecoming committee is meeting so if you have suggestions please let us know Discussion Items Senator Lee discussed auditorium chair for sale, this money raised will go soly purchasing new chairs as well as to scholarships for students, the chairs will sell from $350-$1000, there are package deals and wants ASNAU to buy some, we could get a plaque with our name next to the chair, last time they got new chairs was 45 years ago, this could come form roll over budget like 98 or budget line 156 Announcements
