SESSION NOTES – October 27, 2011
Officer Training: The Session reviewed the progress of the training

program for deacons. The Session spent additional time reviewing thestatus of those who are prospective candidates for the offices of elder anddeacon in January 2012. Again, we especially want to ask your prayers thatthe Lord would raise up additional men to serve as elders and deacons, aswell as for others to rise up to meet needs and provide acts of service thatare not adequately addressed.Outreach and Missions:- The Session approved setting a goal of $5,000 for the Thank Offering forOPC World Wide Outreach, with the offering date set for November 27.- The Session also approved a series of “missions moments” of 5-8 minutesafter the morning worship services for the month of November to helppromote participation in the Thank Offering. These will focus on the waysin which members of our congregation have participated in missions anddiaconal service, including Japan Tsunami relief, New York flood relief,Alabama tornado relief, and the Young People’s trip to New Mexico.- Also approved were:- handing out hot chocolate and brochures to the bystanders in theHudsonville Holiday Parade on Saturday November 19;- the date of the Christmas Luncheon was set for December 11, to whichmembers of the congregation are urged to invite unchurched friends andrelatives.Fellowship: The Session agreed with a proposal from the Women’s

Ministry to arrange fellowship snacks on a rotating basis instead of thecurrent sign-up basis.Shepherding and Diaconal: There are a number of significant spiritual,

family, and financial needs in the congregation, over which weprayed. Please pray for our efforts in a number of cases of those who havenot been attending our church for some time, but who also have not takenany steps to place themselves under shepherding care by becomingmembers of another congregation. The Session and the deacons need yourprayers as we seek to provide guidance, counsel, rebuking, and help, to theend that we all “may conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ” (Philippians 1:27).On behalf of the Session,David Van Dyke, clerk
CHRISTMAS OUTREACH
This Christmas, God will prompt millions of people around theworld to attend church. For some reason, people who don’t normally go to church will make a decision to do so at Christmas.
What can you do?

Invite Your Friends
– Would you consider inviting someone whodoesn’t go to church to join you on Sunday, December 11
th
formorning worship and our Christmas Luncheon at 11 AM? Aneighbor with no family nearby, an unchurched coworker, or a longtime friend are all more likely to say “yes” to a church invitation atChristmas. 1 out of 4 people report saying “yes” to a personalinvitation to church the first time they are asked! Would youcommit to invite at least
three
un-churched friends and/or familymembers?1. _____________ 2. _____________ 3._____________
 Prayer
– If you are hesitant to invite people you know to church, you can begin by taking the less-intimidating step of praying foryour friends (listed above) and the church during our Christmasoutreach. Would you commit to pray daily?
Yes, I will praydaily!

.
