all means many things. It means the weather has cooled and the holidays are not far away. It also means that its almost time to close up your home and turn your furnace on full blast. Unless your home was constructed with special attention to energy efficiency, it could probably use additional insulation. Most existing homes in North America are not insulated to the best level. In fact, before the energy crisis in the 1970s, very little thought was placed toward insulating homes correctly. Thats precisely why older homes are more likely to have much larger heating and air-conditioning bills. Even if you have a new home, it could probably use additional insulation. It will pay for itself in reduced utility billsand will increase the resale value of your home. There are many different parts of your home you can add insulation. You can add it under floors above unheated spaces, around basement walls, or in unventilated crawl spaces. Because warm air rises, it makes most sense to first add ventilation to your attic. Go in your attic right now. If it doesnt have a minimum of 12 inches of insulation, youre losing hundreds of dollars every year in additional utility bills right through your roof! Contact Pyramid Roofing today at 757-247-9600. You can meet with one of our highly trained service technicians to discuss various ways you can improve the energy efficiency of your home.

The holidays are right around the corner! If youre like me, visiting my family usually involves a road trip. I get prepared for every road trip the same way I drop my car off at my local mechanic. I have him change my oil, check my brakes and tires, and look over my car as a whole. Usually, a small repair or two is needed, but at least when Im on the road, I know that my car will get us to our destination safe and sound. Im sure many of you do the same. Heres something that you may have not considered. With the cold and nasty weather of winter approaching, is your roof ready? Just as you should prepare your car for a long road trip, you should prepare your roof for the upcoming winter. It may need general maintenance to best handle the weather. Several shingles may need to be replaced. Anything could happen to your roof over time, especially as it gets older. As freezing rain or even snow begins pelt2011 Clockwork IP, LLC. Fall Trivia!

10 Inexpensive Things to Do in Fall!

Fall is my favorite time of year. The world just seems perfect to me during these special months. I even feel a strange sense of renewal in the fall, which really makes no sense since leaves are falling from trees and nature is starting to go dormant in preparation for winter. Maybe it is because I am trying to squeeze in some final outdoor activities that I feel a burst of energy. So, to celebrate my favorite season, I am sharing a list of things to do in fallthey all cost very little. (Some items on the list are more fun than others) 1. Hop on your bike and head to a bike trail. 2. Visit a cider mill. It is a tradition that cannot be missed! Often there are walking trails on the groundsmake a day out of it! 3. Have a bonfire in the backyard. Kids love roasting marshmallows. It is a great way to reconnect as a family. 4. Plant some mums and bulbs. To greater ensure your mums will survive the winter, plant them in the ground ASAP after buying them as opposed to leaving them in pots on the porch. Planting bulbs that will sprout up in spring is another great fall activity. However, dont plant bulbs too soon. Wait until at least the first frost before putting bulbs in the ground so they stay cool. 5. Gather up the kids, buy a pumpkin, and bake a pumpkin pie from scratch. 6. Make caramel apples. Melt caramels and dip in the fresh picked apples. 7. Rake leaves or clean gutters for an elderly or neighbor (or yourself!). 8. Replace batteries in smoke detector(s). 9. Go for a nice drive to enjoy the colors, and pull over and have a picnic along the way. 10. Get an early start on holiday shopping by taking advantage of coupons and sales now and spread your spending over months instead of a couple of weeks.
