Witnesses report that the people voiced their unhappiness by chanting, "Granger, Granger", which in turn caused a PPP/C supporter by the name of Bunny Culley from Golden Grove to fire 3 gunshots in the air in the presence of police. APNU is concerned that this individual was neither questioned nor detained by police on the scene and is further concerned that some media are reporting lies about PPP/C participants being doused with gasoline. We find this to be a very dangerous and obvious attempt to incite violence before elections.

 APNU PRESS STATEMENT
Georgetown, GuyanaThursday 17
th
November 2011
For Immediate Release

PPP HATCHED PLOT TO RIG THE 2011 GENERAL AND REGIONALELECTIONS
As we approach Elections Day, on Monday 28
th
November 2011, it is crystal clear thatthe PPP has already begun the process of preparing to rig the 2011 General and RegionalElections, in their desperate bid to hang on to power as well as to the State Treasury. The dictators are at the stage of creating a facade by paying, feeding, trucking and bussing in people from all over Guyana to their rallies. This is aimed at deceiving theDiplomatic Corps and overseas observers that the regime has popular support. The reality is that the PPP today is the most unpopular regime in the history of Guyana. It is as popular as the “M
assas”
of slavery and indentureship were. Its traditionalsupporters are staying away from the party’s public meetings. This comes as no surprisesince the Jagdeo cabal, after dictatorially foisting Donald Ramotar on the PPPmembership, was forced to cancel the PPP’s 21
st
Congress which was constitutionally due this year.President Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar could not face the PPP membership.Instead of giving PPP members the right to freely elect their Presidential Candidate thenew
“Massas”
offered them racial fear- mongering. However, the
“Massas’
are wellaware that racial fear mongering will not work. Therefore, the only way they can remainin Office is by rigging the elections.Over the past months we have seen the plan unfolding as follows:
1.

The regime refused international funding for the Elections Commission, thereby, making the Commission vulnerable to the pressures of the regime.
2.

A PPP and Indo-centric person who
“publishes”
polls has stated that the PPP wasthe most popular party.
3.

President Jagdeo has invited 7 groups of international observers.  At this point it is clear what the PPP’s defense of the rigging will be. President Jagdeo will say,
“If we wanted to rig the elections why would I have invited international observers? All the polls showed that the PPP would win. Look at the massive crowds at our rallies.”
The PPP is currently transporting rented crowds to its rallies in an effort atconning international observers into declaring the elections free and fair.  At this stage the elections could hardly be described as free and fair with the PPP’smonopolization and abuse of government and state resources in its campaign.

On Election Day the PPP will attempt to do the following:

PPP activists will intimidate Indo Guyanese to go out and vote PPP.

Get PPP friendly polling officials to mark up ballots for the PPP. They will take carenot to raise a red flag by exceeding the voters list.  Whilst opposition Scrutineers may stymie rigging at the Polling Place, the greatestdanger lie at GECOM’s data processing centre. Many IT specialists have advised thatGECOM’s software could be compromised and programmed directly or by remotecontrol to steal votes for the PPP. We all know that in recent years the regime, in tandem with the criminal enterprises, have been involved in tapping the telephones and hackinginto the computers of opposition figures.  APNU is reminding GECOM of their responsibility to ensure that their systems and
procedures are strictly adhered to and that every effort is made to ensure that the 2011 Generaland Regional Elections are conducted in a manner that is demonstrably free and fair and freefrom fear. APNU also wishes to place the PPP, their collaborators and servants on notice that we have putarrangements in place to ensure that there is a level playing field for these Elections.
APNU IS APPALLED BY UNSUBSTANTIATED RACIST AND DISTORTEDLIES REPORTED BY THE PPP/C REGARDING DISRUPTIONS AT THEPPPC RALLY IN VICTORIA VILLAGE
APNU was reliably informed that frustrated residents took it upon themselves to protest the liesspouted by the PPP

a PPP/C
meeting held in Victoria Village,Guyana. Residents expressed that for the past 19

rs they have suffered extreme hardshipsincluding pervasive poverty, lack of running water, electricity, street lights and lack of jobopportunities for the youth of Victoria and have rarely witnessed visits of any PPP
/
Cgovernment officials to their village.  Witnesses report that the people voiced their unhappiness by chanting,
"Granger, Granger",
 which in turn
caused a PPP

C supporter by the name of Bunny Culley from Golden Grove
to
fire 3 gunshots in the air in the presence of police

C participants being doused with gasoline. We find this to be a very dangerous and obvious attempt to incite violence before elections
.
APNU is also concerned that an APNU supporter was shoved and slapped in the chest by anofficer on the scene. APNU is concerned that police are today attempting to arrest thissupporter for being the
“ring leader”.
We call on the Guyana Police Force to investigate Mr
.
Culley’s discharge of
a
firearm in a public place and we further call for our supporters not to beharassed, detained or arrested for exercising their democratic rights.  APNU wishes to recognize that residents of Victoria have a long history of independence, courage and contribution to Guyana. We insist that all Guyanese be treated fairly and without
