SMG plc engages in the production and broadcasting of television and radio programs in

the United Kingdom. It operates in four divisions:

1. Television - The Television division produces and broadcasts television programs


and associated enterprises. This division incorporates Scottish TV, Grampian TV,
SMG TV Productions, Ginger Television, and SMG Broadcast and Event
Solutions.

2. Radio - The Radio division focuses on Virgin Radio, the national commercial pop
and rock music station.

3. Cinema - The Cinema division provides advertising space within cinema


complexes.

4. Outdoor. The Outdoor division offers advertising solutions across various


outdoor media. The company also engages in the sale of advertising airtime and
space in media, cinema, and Internet services.

Television

stv

SMG’s broadcasting business is known as stv and incorporates two services – one for the
north of Scotland and one for central Scotland. Together, these services produce 15 hours
per week of dedicated regional programming to over 4.5 million viewers across Scotland.

Both regional and national broadcasters, stv’s wide range of programming reflects
Scotland’s distinctive political, legal, educational, cultural and sporting institutions via
news, current affairs and non-news programming, including original new regional drama
and sport.

News is at the heart of both services, with Scotland Today and North Tonight bringing
viewers live, comprehensive and up-to-the-minute news from across the region with
regular evening news programmes and bulletins throughout the day. stv’s news services
have minute-by-minute comprehensive online support, with Scotland Today offering clips
available to download, a daily news email service.

Whilst stv broadcasts separate regional news services, they broadcast a common
television schedule for their non-news programming allowing the whole of Scotland to
share in regional entertainment, drama and documentary productions coming out of both
the north and central regions.

Broadcasting since 1957, stv in the central region produces a rich and varied range of
genre including cutting edge drama, special election programming, dedicated sports
programming and original documentary. Recent productions include High Times, Home
for the Holidays and the longest running sports programme in the world, Scotsport.

stv has broadcast a service in the North of Scotland since 1961 and has the largest
transmission area of any ITV licensee. Based in Aberdeen, stv also has news studios in
Dundee and Inverness covering Tayside, North Fife, the Highlands and Islands. Recent
productions include Unsolved, Seeing Scotland and Beyond Explanation.

SMG Productions

SMG Productions is a major player in the UK and international television production


industry, constantly endeavouring to nurture and develop the talent essential for the
health of the TV industry outside the south east. SMG Productions, together with its sister
company, Ginger Productions, has produced a wide range of programmes for a variety of
networks including top quality ITV1 drama like Taggart and Goodbye Mr. Chips and
Rebus and high profile factual programming for ITV1 and ITV2 including Jack Osbourne
- Adremaline Junkie, Club Reps, Don't Drop The Coffin and Medics of the Glen. SMG
Productions also produces peaktime programming for BBC1, Channel 4, Sky1, and Five.
