Nutrition

Nutrition is the intake of the materials necessary to support life. The science of nutrition is the study of how organisms use and process these materials.

WHY STUDY NUTRITION?

Answer:

You are what you eat. Our diet has a great effect either positive or negative or sometimes both - on our health

FACTS
Thirty percent of the adults in North America are

obese; it means that in the U.S. alone, about 65 million people are obese.
Obesity increases the risk of diseases such as:

Coronary heart disease Hypertension Type 2 diabetes Stroke Gallbladder disease Osteoarthritis Sleep apnea and respiratory problems Breast and colon cancer

More facts
Every day between 300 800 billion cells in our body DIE. These dead cells must be eliminated and replaced.

This cycle of cells breaking down,

getting eliminated from the body and being replaced is part of the aging process.
We can slow down the aging

process by choosing the right foods and the right supplements - in the right quantities.

There are six different types of nutrients for

the repair of tissues and maintenance of life:

Carbohydrates Fats Proteins Vitamins Minerals Water

Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for all

bodily functions Shortage of carbohydrates in the body can cause:

Energy loss Depression Loss of essential protein Constipation Colon cancer

Two kinds of Carbohydrates

Simple carbohydrates consist of small molecules of

sugar can deliver energy to your body very quickly. Fruit, pastry and candy are all simple carbohydrates but fruit has more vitamins and nutrients and pastry and candy are higher in calories.

Complex Carbohydrates
Complex carbohydrates consist of chains of sugar

molecules. They are broken down more slowly and therefore provide a gradual stream of energy.
Examples of complex carbohydrates are oatmeal,

pasta, brown bread, peas, beans and lentils.

Saturated
Unsaturated

Saturated Fats
Saturated fats are found in animal products such as meats and

dairy products and in processed foods such as potato chips and pastries. Saturated fats raise the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) and are NOT heart-healthy.

Unsaturated Fats
Unsaturated fats are found in vegetable oils such as peanut,

safflower and olives, and in foods such as avocado. Unsaturated fats raise the level of good cholesterol (HDL) and ARE heart-healthy.

Saturated Fats
The chemical structure of a saturated fat is fully

saturated with hydrogen atoms, and does not contain double bonds between carbon atoms.
Saturated fats are found in animal products such as

meats and dairy products and in processed foods such as potato chips and pastries.
Saturated fats raise the level of bad cholesterol (LDL)

and are NOT heart-healthy.

Saturated Fats

Unsaturated Fats
Unsaturated fats differ from saturated fats in that their

chemical structure contains double bonds.

Unsaturated fats are found in vegetable oils such as peanut,

safflower and olives, and in foods such as avocado.

Unsaturated fats raise the level of good

cholesterol (HDL) and ARE heart-healthy.

Unsaturated Fats

Proteins are organic compounds made of amino acids.

Our bodies use protein to make different protein molecules that have specialized functions in our bodies, such as hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in blood. Protein comes from both animal and vegetable sources.

Sources of Protein
-6 ounce steak -38 grams of protein -44 grams of fat -16 grams of saturated fat -6 ounces of salmon -34 grams of protein -18 grams of fat -4 grams of saturated fat -Cup of cooked lentils -18 grams of protein -less than 1 gram of fat

Vitamins are nutrients you must get from food because

your body cant manufacture them. Vitamins are essential for the normal growth and development of an organism.
They come in two types: -water soluble: are not easily stored in the body and

should be replenished daily -fat soluble; can be stored in the liver and tissues

Minerals are group of inorganic elements that are essential to humans and animals for normal body function. Dietary minerals are derived from the earth's crust. Plants extract the minerals from the soil, and humans and animals, in their turn, consume the plants.
There are seven major minerals: Calcium Phosphorus Magnesium Sodium Potassium Chlorine Sulfur Essential trace minerals are chromium, copper, fluorine, manganese, molybdenum, selenium and zinc.

Why use Alveo?

Civilization, for all its benefits, has had some very bad

effects on our diet We consume processed and genetically engineered foods Foods consumed by our grandparents were much more nutritionally diverse Alveo provides complex and balanced plant materials in one easy-to-metabolize formula

Adaptogens Anti-inflammatory agents Immunomodulative ingredients Detoxicatives Regeneratives Herbs with calming effect

Functions:
Adaptogens: Increase the ability of an organism to adapt to the changing physical, chemical and psychological stresses of the outside environment Anti-inflammatory agents: Shield against inflammation in the small and large intestine of the digestive system Immunomodulative ingredients: Have antibiotic properties and help the immune system Detoxicatives: Accelerate the expulsion of toxins and foreign substances that are the by-products of metabolism Regeneratives: Support cell division, tissue health and regeneration, and slow down the aging process Herbs in Alveo with calming effects: Soothe and increase the general feeling

of well-being

ALVEO also contains the benefits of:

Peppermint oil - been used for many health conditions, such as

digestive disorders, joint pain, nausea and in treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Peppermint also has promising radio-protective effects for cancer

patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Grape juice - contains antioxidants called flavonoids, which have been

shown to increase your high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or "good") cholesterol; lower your risk of clogged arteries (atherosclerosis); and to help lower blood pressure.

And benefits of Chromium:

Enhances the action of insulin, a hormone responsible for the

metabolism and storage of carbohydrate, fat and protein

Is known for decreasing bad cholesterol and triglyceride and

increasing good cholesterol fat and protein in the body

Is an essential part of the glucose tolerance factor (GTF)
It plays an important role in many conditions such as acne, depression,

high cholesterol, migraine headaches, psoriasis, metabolic syndrome, heart disease prevention - just to name it a few
Most important function of chromium in the body is to help regulate

the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood

FACTS:
30% of the adults in North America are obese; this means
that in the U.S. alone, about 65 million people are obese.
Obesity increases the risk of

diseases such as:

Coronary heart disease Hypertension Type 2 diabetes Stroke Gallbladder disease Osteoarthritis Sleep apnea and respiratory problems Breast and colon cancer Depression

SUGAR kills:
SUGAR is the number 1 killer of North Americans today The average American consumes an astounding 2-3 lbs. of sugar each week Sugar consumption in the U.S. has increased from 26 lbs. to 135 lbs. of

sugar per person per year

Prior to the turn of this century (1887-1890), the average consumption was

only 5 lbs. per person per year

Cardiovascular disease and cancer were virtually unknown in the early 1900's

Simple sugars have been observed to aggravate asthma, move mood swings,

provoke personality changes, muster mental illness, nourish nervous disorders, deliver diabetes, hurry heart disease, grow gallstones, hasten hypertension, and add arthritis
