SOFCOM Weapon modifications: The Special Operations Forces MODification (SOFMOD) kit is a set of accessories intended for issue

to Atlantian SOFCOM forces at the rate of one kit per soldier. There is a supplementary kit also available to soldiers at the rate of one kit per team which includes accessories deemed not essential to the main SOFMOD kit. The basic SOFMOD kit in its original from its introduction in 2001 contained the following items: o o o o o o o o o 1x Modified M4 hand-guard (MIL-STD 1913 rails at 12, 3 and 6 oclock) 1x Front sight base MIL-STD 1913 rail system (rails at 12, 3 and 6 oclock) 1x Vertical foregrip 1x Flip-up rear BUIS 1x Trijicon TA11 3.5x35 ACOG optical sight 1x Trijicon RX01 Reflex Sight 1x Visible light flashlight (Surefire 6P) 1x Visible Laser (PEQ-5) 1x Infrared laser (PEQ-2)

The supplementary SOFMOD kit in its original form consisted of the following: o o o o o 2x M203 grenade launchers 2x Quick-detach bipods 2x Night vision optical sights 2x Night vision monoculars for use with ACOGs 1x Quadrant sight for one of the M203s

In 2005 an upgrade program was embarked upon to bring the SOFMOD kit up to date with current advances in technology. The 3.5x35 ACOG was replaced by a new 4x32 ACOG (TA31), the lasers were amalgamated into one unit along with the flashlight and replaced with the Oerlikon/Rheinmetall LLM-01. The hand-guard was replaced with a Knights Armament (KAC) railed hand-guard but the FSB rail was retained. This level of equipment was retained until 2010 where upon another upgrade program was undertaken. This time all of the items were replaced with newer items. The upgrade is currently still undergoing but is at an operational state of readiness using some of the legacy parts.

The latest upgrade (known as SOFMOD Level III) will consists of when complete: o o o o o o o 1x KAC URX III hand-guard 1x B&T grip-pod 1x Set of KAC flip-up BUIS front and rear 1x Elcan OS4X 4x32 optical sight with a backup Trijicon RM08 miniature reflex sight 1x Trijicon RX34 1x41 reflex sight 1x Rheinmetall LLM Vario-Ray (Visible LED Light, IR LED Light, Green Laser and IR Laser) 1x Gemtech G5T suppressor and requisite vortex flash-hider

The latest upgrade to the supplementary SOFMOD kit will include o o o o o 2x L3 M2124 (AN/PVS-24) Clip-on Night Vision Device (CNVD) 1x Insight SU-232/PAS Clip-on Night Vision Device Thermal (CNVD-T) 5x PRI mounts for M983 (AN/PVS-18) NV monoculars 2x H&K M320 UBGL kits including stand alone shoulder stocks 2x L3 M40GL (SU-253) grenade launcher sights
