MGCY STATEMENT FOR MULTI- STAKEHOLDER DIALOGUE

Thank you Mr. Chair, Based on our understanding this is a multi-stakeholder dialogue. Therefore, we want to invite you, parties, to respond to our statement, as we will respond to your statements as well. SCP Our vision on the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption & Production Patterns is one that is decisive and easily translatable from words into action. As youth, we are committed to make an impactful transition to more sustainable practices. We advocate for global indicators for development that go beyond GDP and which account for human well-being and maintenance of natural capital, thereby replacing economic growth as the primary measure of human progress. We also advocate for clear targets and indicators for the 10YFP, so that it can be reviewed after, preferable, 2 years. Waste In Waste, we urge countries to address the social and poverty issues of the formal and informal waste sectors including health, safety and educational opportunities for waste workers, particularly children. Transport Transportation systems should improve quality of life by facilitating access to social services. For example, sustainable transportation systems can help children in rural and suburban areas have access to quality education. Furthermore, we would like to emphasize that transportation systems should only be called accessible if they are safe, affordable, appropriate and strategically linked to regional economies. Mining We must take the steps forward to eliminate human rights violations in mining activities. We should respect the rights of communities directly affected by these mines. We are very concerned about our future. We need to preserve essential ecological areas that are being destroyed by mining as we speak. We must guard our real treasures: Our social and ecological capital.

Chemicals Chemical mismanagement impacts ALL communities and must be addressed. Our way forward is clear. Companies must be made responsible for the negative side effects of their production. Chemicals should not be used until they have been proven safe. Further, every consumer has the right to know what chemicals they are exposed to. Finally, safer alternatives to toxic chemicals need to be developed and implemented. Conclusion: We as major group of children and youth really want to contribute, and we believe that wecan contribute. We conclude by asking that decisions made here are implemented; and action must be taken -- so we may all have a sustainable future. Thank you.
