FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH MATHEMATICS ANXIETY The WH phenomenal in mathematics anxiety 1) What is it? Mathematic anxiety is the Ieeling oI tension and anxiety that interIere with manipulation oI number and the solving oI mathematical problem in a wide variety oI ordinary liIe and academic situation.
2) Why does it happen? (mathophobia) Mathematic anxiety or mathophobia happen when student who has developed an emotional and intellectual block against mathematic Iind that making progress in mathematics and closely related Iield is very diIIicult.
3) Who has it? Mathematic anxiety can have in student who has poor experience in past mathematic class and some people during their early years oI schooling.
) When does it occur? t does occur when the student could have reached some level in their mathematical training beyond which they Iound progress extremely diIIicult.
) What create it? Mathematic anxiety can be created by Iear experienced Irom contact with mathematical activities, Ieeling discomIort with mathematic in elementary/secondary school, lack oI a Iorm Ioundation in mathematics, poor instruction and poorly designed curricular, teachers` attitude/personality/style oI teaching and unable to perIorm task.
) How do you reduce it? Mathematic anxiety can be reduced by attempting to the development oI understanding through explaining mathematical idea.
) How do you eliminate it? Mathematic anxiety can be eliminated by creating a positive, supportive classroom atmosphere, stress understanding the thought process, dispel the mathematical mind myth, provide new mathematical experiences, use concrete materials to teach content, make sure each concept is understood beIore continuing, reduce tension and pressure in mathematic class, give positive Ieedback on written tests and be sensitive and determined.
