―For an optimist the glass is half full, for a
pessimist it's half empty, and for an engineer it'stwice as big as necessary."Classrooms that are the temperature necessaryfor a polar bear, real-life Frogger, and morecalculus homework the first week of college thanin a whole month of math class in highschool. Welcome to Speed School. For mostincoming engineering students, the first year of Speed School can be quite overwhelming. Oneorganization that has been proven time and timeagain to aid these students in their most stressfultimes is the Speed School Student Council(SSSC). In conjunction with this organization isour Freshman Speed Council. Here at U of L, the Speed School Council isknown widely across campus and across thenation for being the most active schoolcouncil. Speed School Student Council hosts theannual Engineer's Expo each Spring, invitinghigh school students all across the state to comeand learn about engineering and Speed Schoolspecifically. Our council also hosts manydifferent career fairs, cheap lunches, and eventstargeted for Speed School students. FreshmanCouncil is a great way for incoming engineeringstudents to speak up and getinvolved. In addition to being agreat way to meeting fellowclassmates, faculty, and staff,Council is an excellent way toset yourself apart from theothers students looking for aco-op. It's free to join and hasmany added perks, such asfree food at meetings, free T-shirts, and a great way tobegin networking for futureclasses, co-ops, and careers.Speed Council meetings are every Thursday at12:20pm in Vogt 311. Freshman Councilmeetings are every Sunday night at 5:30pm inVogt 311 followed by a Calculus Study Jam at6:00pm.
