ABOUT THE SPACE
Platform Contemporary Art Spaces manages four different spaces. Applicants are encouraged to visit thesites before submitting their proposal to consider the suitability of their project to the exhibition spacerequested. Due to Council regulations, please note that exhibitions are confined to the cabinet spaces only,and no materials can be installed in exterior spaces or surfaces of any of the sites. A floor plan withspecifications and dimensions is provided with these guidelines.
In a previous round we received numerous proposals for Vitrine, Sample and Majorca, for this round we areparticularly interested in seeing proposals for the main PLATFORM space.Platform’s exhibiting spaces comprise of the following:
PLATFORM
- 13 glass-fronted cases lining the underground pedestrian walkway in CampbellArcade, linking Flinders Street Station to Degraves Street
VITRINE
- a floor to ceiling glass shop-front sized window in Campbell Arcade (suitable for larger scale installations)
SAMPLE
- a single case in Campbell Arcade specifically allocated to Young and EmergingArtists
MAJORCA
- off-site cabinets in Centreway Arcade most suitable for 2D artwork. (For the2012 program applications for Majorca are encouraged from artists/graphic designers/architects for graphic work that engages with the urban context.)
ORGANISATION PRIORITIES & SELECTION CRITERIA
For 2012, Platform Contemporary Art Spaces is interested in receiving applications that:

Consider Platform’s unique site and broad audience
•
Present critically and socially engaged art practices
•
Take a multi-disciplinary, conceptual, or spatial approach to the site
•
Involve collaborative practices or curated exhibitions
•
Create
opportunities for emerging, mid-career and established artists wishing to engage with theunique possibilities of Platform’s exhibition spaces.The proposals will be graded on their relevance to one of Platform’s programming priorities, and on thequality of the application and applicant.
