What’s new this season?
Free Fishing Day:
This year, Free Fishing Daywill be held on June 2. This annual event is a greatopportunity to share your passion or shing witha riend or amily member. For more inormation,seepage 7.
New community sheries:
Six new communi-ty sheries are scheduled to open to the public in2012. They will be located in Garden City, Layton,Monroe, Ogden, Washington and Wellington. Fora complete list o Utah’s community sheries, seethe inormation box onpage 23.
Discounted licenses or disabled veterans:
The Division began oering discounted shinglicenses to disabled veterans in July 2011. To see i you are eligible or one o these licenses, see theinormation box onpage 5.
New experimental shery:
Hobbs Reservoir isa new shery in northern Utah. The Utah WildlieBoard approved some experimental regulationsat the reservoir that will hopeully produce largersh over the next ve years. For details, see thearticle onpage 42.
Reduced wiper limit at Willard Bay:
Thedaily wiper limit at Willard Bay Reservoir haschanged rom six sh to three sh. For details andmore inormation on Utah’s wiper program, seethe article onpage 38.
Changes at Lake Powell:
Beginning in 2012,you may llet sh—and possess lleted sh—atany time while shing at Lake Powell. There willalso be no limit on the number o walleye you cankeep. For details, seepage 26.
Limits removed or some species and wa-ters:
To combat illegal sh stocking, the WildlieBoard removed the daily bag and possessionlimits or some species at a handul o waters, par-ticularly in central and southern Utah. For moreinormation, see the article onpage 34.

Who makes the rules?
The Utah Wildlie Board passes the rulesand laws summarized in this guidebook.There are seven board members, andeach serves a six-year term. Appointed by thegovernor, board members are not Divisionemployees.The Division’s director serves as the board’sexecutive secretary but does not have a vote onwildlie policies.Beore board members make changes towildlie rules, they listen to recommendationsrom Division biologists.
