Reading Log Activities
Descriptions of activities: Make sure you follow every direction!
1. SUMMARIZE
Write a SUMMARY for a section of your book.If you have finished the book,
summarize the whole thing.Include the characters and setting, 3-5 main
events and the problem and solution. If you have read the ending, include that as
well.

2. WRITE A LETTER
Write a LETTER to a character in your book. Tell them what you enjoyed about the
book and what you are still wondering. Also ask them 1 or 2 questions that you
still have. Make sure to sign it.

3. VOCAB STUDY
Select 5 VOCABULARY words.

For EACH WORD:
*Copy the sentence that uses the word from the book.
*Use context clues to come up with a definition for each word.
*Give 1 synonym and 1 antonym.
*Write your own sentence that uses the meaning of the word.

4. ASK QUESTIONS

Ask 5 QUESTIONS. They should NOT be right there questions.
You can ask anything that you are still wondering about.
Answer ONE of your own questions by making an inference. You should write 1

paragraph,
using evidence from the story to answer the question.
5. ILLUSTRATE!
Visualize a scene from your book and draw a detailed picture of it. You also need to
write a one-two paragraph description of the scene.
6. CONNECT
Make a connection. Do all 4 steps.

1. What part of the story are you connecting to?
2. What is your connection?
3. What did your connection help you learn?
4. What type of connection did you make?

7. RESPOND
Respond to the text. Write 2 paragraphs usingone of the starters:
