Earlier in the week I had theopportunity to interview theThaakat AtlantaChapter President and FoundingMember, Ayesha Lodhia.
Q:
How did you hear of Tha-akat and what inspired youto start your own chapter?
 A:
I heard about Thaakatthrough Facebook and Word-press. Thaakat was growingfast and the differences it wasmaking really inspired me. My cousin, Uzma Ali Bawany be-came my role model and Ireally wanted to walk in herfootsteps. I wanted to dosomething in life where Icould help people in need. Irealized that all the littlethings we do together can cre-
ate big differences in people’s
lives across the world. All the
pictures on Thaakat’s page
really inspired me, all the pro- jects they were working on were fascinating! It changedmy heart and I started my own chapter in Atlanta to be apart of the Thaakat team andhave fun while helping out agood cause! Definitely, the best decision of my life!
Q:
What was one of the first events you held and how did you market it?
 A:
Our first big event wasThaakat Delight, to raise
money for Plumy’nut pro-
ject. We were aiming togive a taste of Indo-Pak food to the students atschool. However, we hadmore than just food; wehad a henna artist and In-dian music. We decoratedthe whole room with color-ful scarves and gave theevent an Indian theme. Tomarket this event we putup posters around campus, we verbally invited people, and we also made a Face- book event. It was very suc-cessful and all the studentsenjoyed our event!
Q:
What are some of the projects you've been work-ing on this year and howmuch have you raised?

 A:
Our kick-off event was afundraiser at Pinkberry, this was our first exposureof Thaakat to our friends atschool. On Halloween, we went trick-or-treating forchange around campus. Wepassed out candy and many professors and studentsdonated their change to us
for Plumpy’nut. So far Tha-
akat Atlanta has raisednearly $6,000 since sum-mer 2011!! We are very thankful to all the support-ers we have in Atlanta andthe encouragement we getfrom all the other Thaakatchapters!
Q:
Do you have any ad-vice for other Thaakat chapters - whether theyare just starting up or have been around theblock?
 A:
My advice to other Tha-akat chapters is to have fun with everything you do forThaakat because at the endof the day, the effort youput into your work helpedsomeone across the world.Teamwork is key because asa team we create strength, working together helpssolve problems we run into.Put your heart into every-thing you do and never giveup! There will be obstaclesevery chapter may encoun-ter but remember we havesuch great members youcan go to for advice. So
don’t worry! Thaakat Foun-
dation contains the most wonderful people I haveever met in my life! Startinga Thaakat chapter is so worth it!
Q:
What has been your most memorable Thaakat memory?
 A:
My most memora- ble Thaakat memory is when we had a Tha-akat booth at the stu-dent activities fair oncampus. At our booth we were able to spark interest about Thaakatand see the excitementstudents had towardsour new venture. Wegot many compliments fromthe student organization onour well-organized boothand the colorfulThe support fromour fellow peers was unimaginableand it helped en-courage our teamto accomplish ourgoals for the se-mester.
