Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Jr.

Governor of California State Capitol Building Sacramento, CA 95814 Dear Governor Brown, I am writing to respectfully urge you to consider proclaiming a State of Emergency and activating the California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA) in the aftermath of the recent Santa Ana windstorm that has devastated many surrounding communities in Los Angeles County, including the cities of Alhambra, San Gabriel and San Marino, which I represent in the 49th Assembly District. Many neighborhoods have been left to cope with severe damage to property and endure the disruption of power outages as a result of the windstorm which, at its peak, blew winds of up to 80 mph between Wednesday and Thursday. Our local cities have declared states of emergency, with their city halls and police departments operating on generators. Meanwhile thousands of residents have had to deal with closures at local schools, libraries and public transportation systems. These disruptions have been particularly hard on seniors, children and families. Hundreds of trees are down throughout my district and many homes and businesses are now experiencing their second full day of power outages, which potentially poses serious health and public safety hazards. Again, I urge you to consider proclaiming a State of Emergency and activating the CDAA, so that our local governments and residents can receive the aid necessary to help them recover from this severe natural disaster. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely,

MIKE ENG Assemblymember, 49th District cc: Speaker John A. Prez, California State Assembly Luis Ayala, Mayor, City of Alhambra David R. Gutierrez, Mayor, City of San Gabriel Dr. Allan Yung, Mayor, City of San Marino
