As you may, or may not know, I Julie Aniela Sikonski and I want to show you where Ive been and where I am going since entering the program WAY back
in 2009.
To start, have learned that design consists of recognizing a problem, subtracting the aws (or complications) to
create and design a solution. Because I am a black and white type of thinker I tend to like systems and logical
structures behind my design.

TYPE 2 POSTER SOPH

This is when I discovered that bold is what I like. My understanding of type grew along with my understanding of scale to show hierarchy and the
diference in the value of information.

I enjoy taking photography and am always looking for new angles to look through the view nder. (Both literally and metaphorically). And I also used every
chance I could get to include subject matter in which I am personally interested in.
COOKBOOK SOPH
I
But design can be for non personal uses too. Brandon Lyon and I reinvented a cookbook, using a system of icons
to help promote cooking but inuences a deeper root which can teach families to makes fast, healthy meals
together. This is where I learned the efect printed material can have on an audience.
PACKAGING JR
I
I enjoy design theories and thinking; using visual rhetoric to help me make informed and deliberate choices with my work. In my
processes not only do I recognize the audience but am able to cater too towards specic audiences, starting with research to answer
important factor and questions that arise.
TYPE III JR
I
Complimenting my bold style, I have created my own interpretation and structure for Gertrude Steins Tender
Buttons using a tight lock up of text.
MOVE TO BRIGHTON JR
I
Taking my education overseas, second half of last year, I did a semester at the University of Brighton, located on
the south coast of England.
OPEN TYPE PROJECT JR
I
With such amazing facilities in my new surroundings this is where I was able to focus and discover my love for
physical, analog processes such as screen printing and using the letterpress.

And enter in design competitions, and working in collaboration with students from diferent cultures.
After my return to the states I was fortunate enough to continue my internship at Liquid 9 with Frankie Oviedo.

Ive interned there for 2 semesters now and since taking root, I was giving lots of opportunities to continue with
my own visual interpretations and communications in my decision making.

Using diferent channels to strengthen the pieces, such as motion and sound, helps the viewer zero in on what is
important and can determine the pace of a viewer.

I was also given the opportunity to use my style and discover new techniques for public promotions and

Tying up all of these characteristics, I plan to develop a project that directs me towards who I am, who I am
becoming, and who I want to be.
QUESTION
How can I use graphic designto teach passionate music
enthusiasts about different genres of music and make
them willing to share and explore other genres as well?

MIX TAPES
After some brainstorming, Ive decided that I want to base my project on music lovers from around the world and
I want to bring back the tactile element of a music playlist or a mix tape if you will.
ARTIST TRADING CARDS
Artist Trading Cards are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cardssmall enough to t inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or
sheets. Different artists create and design their own cards.

Types of design I would like to use for this project are preferred but not limited to package design, information
graphics, print based media.
INFORMATION GRAPHICS
More inspiration includes bold, easy to read information graphics to show the receiver the diferences and
similarities of the music that comes on their mix tape.
PACKAGING
I want packing to somehow harbor this CD/thumb drive/small hard drive (whatever it may be) the information
graphics and artwork inside so there is a discovery as you open it up. Also considering reusable or dual
purposing of this container for something like a poster.

Now knowing what you know about me any feedback on this question would be amazing and set me afoot in the
right direction, whatever that may be.
