The effect of intravenous synthetic amino acids (Aminofusin) and
dextrose supplementation on mortality rate, weight gain and bio-
chemical blood values was examined in 60 newborn infants with birthweight between 1500 — 2250 grams. They were assigned randomly ascontrol and early caloric supplementation groups.
Cermin Dunia Kedokteran

There was no signifîcant difference in mortality rate. Supplemen-
tation grow up showed signifîcantly lower weight loss, sooner regained
birth weight and greater avarage daily weight increase as compare to
control group.Significant differences were found on serial determinations of serum
and albumin concentrations. There was no difference on
blood glucose levels and glycosuria episodes. No apparent complica-
tions from intravenous supplementation was observed.
The results showed benefîcial effects of supplementation of amino
acids and dextrose in the care of low birth weight infants during the
first days of life.

Amoxycillin followed by 1 g taken 5 hours later resulted in 94.4% cure
rate on the third day
after treatment or a 96.4% cure rate 7 days after
treatment. No adverse side effects were observed.
This preliminary report concludes that amoxycillin 3 g in two oral
