Senior Citizens at Chapel
Thirty-four seniors were treated to a countrysidemeal of beef stew, cranberry salad, rolls, and apple crispon November 11, 2011, at Chapel Church at 11:30 pm.Dan Steen welcomed the guests, briefly talked about thesignificance of Veterans Day to his family, and then led thegroup in the Pledge of Allegiance. Sue Koster read aThanksgiving poem and gave the meal blessing. After the meal, Sue read a script about some nec-essary items from days gone by while Karen Handorfshowed each item, including a washboard, corn peg, sadi-ron, double tree, curling iron, straightedge razor, hair clip-pers, churn, kerosene lamp, and corn dryer. The group en-joyed telling their own memories, and it was concluded thatwe are glad for more modern conveniences; however, weall agreed with Leona Osten who said she missed the senseof family today compared to the good old days.A Veteran’s Day poem was read, and we endedthe fun afternoon by singing the national anthem. Thankyou to the Chapel Volunteers who served the meal. Manyseniors also attended the Veteran’s Day program at West-brook at 2:00 pm that day. The next meeting will be Fri-day, December 9, at the Tree Lighting at the City Centre at11:30 am.
