YAHUSHA
JOSHUA
1
And it came to be, after the
death
of Mosheh the servant of
HWHY
, that
HWHY
spoke to Yahusha son of Nun,
the assistant of Mosheh, saying,
2
“Mosheh
My
servant is
dead,
so
 now
, arise, pass over this Yard
ĕ
n, youand
all
this people, to the land which
I am giving to them, to the children of
Yisra’
ĕ
l.
3
“Every place on which the sole of your foot treads I have
given
you, as Ispoke to Mosheh.
4
“From the wilderness and thisLe
anon even as far as the
great
river,the River Euphrates,
all
the land of the
ittites and to the Great Sea toward the
going down of the sun, is your border.
5
“No man is going to
stand
 before you
 all
the days of your
life
. As I was withMosheh, so
I am with you.
I
do not fail
 you nor
forsake
you.
6
Be strong and courageous,
for youare to let this people inherit the landwhich I
swore
to their fathers to give
them.
7
Only

be strong
and
very

courageous
to
guard
to
do according
to
all
the
Torah
which Mosheh
My
servant
commanded
you.
 Do
not
turnfrom it

right

or left, so that you act
 wisely
wherever you go.
8
 Do
not
let this
Book
of the
Torah
 depart from your
mouth,
but you
shall
meditate on it day and night, so that
you
guard
to do
according
to
all
that is
written
in it. For then you
shall
make
  your way
prosperous
and act
wisely
.
9
“Have I not
commanded
you?
Bestrong and courageous
.
 Do
not
 be
afraid
, nor be
discouraged
, for
HWHY
 your
Elohim
is with you wherever you
go.”
10
And Yahusha
commanded
the
ofcers of the people, saying,
11
“Pass through the
midst
of the campand
command
the people, saying,
Prepare
food for yourselves, for within
three days you are passing over this
Yard
ĕ
n, to go in to
possess
the landwhich
HWHY
your
Elohim
is giving
you to possess.’ ”
12
And Yahusha spoke to theRe’u
ḇĕ
nites and to the Ga
ites and to
half the tribe of Menashsheh, saying,
13
Remember
the
word
whichMosheh, servant of
HWHY
,
commanded
you, saying, ‘
HWHY
your
Elohim
is giving you rest and
He
shall
give you this land.’
14
Let
your wives, your
little
ones andyour livestock stay in the land which
Mosheh gave you beyond the Yard
ĕ
n.
 But
you
shall
 pass before your brothersarmed,
all
your brave ghters and
 shall
help them,
15
until
HWHY
has
given
your brothersrest, as unto you. So
shall
they also take possession of the land which
HWHY
 your
Elohim
is giving them.
Then
you
shall
return
to the land of your  possession and
 shall
possess
that whichMosheh the servant of
HWHY
gave you
 beyond the Yard
ĕ
n toward the rising of
the sun.”
16
And they answered Yahusha, saying,
“All that you have
commanded
us we
do and wherever you send us we go.
17
“According to
all
that we
obeyed
 Mosheh, so we
obey
you. Only, let
HWHY
your
Elohim
be with you, as
He
was with Mosheh.
18
Whoever rebels
against
your
command
and
does
not obey
your
words
, in
all
that you
command
him,is put to
death.

Only

be strong andcourageous
.”
2
And Yahusha son of Nun
secretlysent
out two men from Shittim to spy,
saying, “Go,
see
the land and Yeri
o.”

278
Yahusha 2
And they went and came to the houseof a woman, a
whore
and her

name

wasRa
a
and they lay down there.
2
 But
it was reported to the sovereign
of Yeri
o, saying, “
See,
men from thechildren of Yisra’
ĕ
l have
come
here
tonight to
search
out the land.”
3
And the sovereign of Yeri
o
sent
toRa
a
, saying, “Bring out the men who
have
come to
you, who have enteredyour house, for they have
come tosearch
out
all
the land.”
4
 But
the woman had taken the twomen and hid them. So she said, “Themen
came to me,
but I
did not
know
where they were from.
5
Then
it came to be as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the
men went out. I
do not
know
where themen went. Pursue them
quickly
, so thatyou overtake them.”
6
 But
she had brought them up to the
roof and
hidden
them with the stalks of
ax, which she had laid out on the roof.
7
And the men pursued them by the
 way
to the Yard
ĕ
n, to the fords. And they
shut the gate afterwards as soon as the pursuers had gone out.
8
And before they lay down, she cameup to them on the roof,
9
and she said to the men, “I
know
that
HWHY
has
given
you the land and thatthe
fear
of you has fallen on us and that
 all
the inhabitants of the land melt away
because
of you.
10
“For we have
heard
how
HWHY
dried up the water of the Sea of Reedsfor you when you came out of Mitsrayim
and what you did to the two sovereigns
of the Amorites who were beyond theYard
ĕ
n, Si
on and O
, whom you putunder the
ban.

11
“And when we
heard
, our
hearts
melted and there was no spirit left inanyone
because
of you, for
HWHY
your
Elohim
,
He
is
Elohim
in the heavensabove and on earth beneath.
12
“And
now
, please swear to me by
HWHY
, since I have shown you
kindness
, that you also
show kindness
 to my father’s house and
 shall
give me a
 true
token,
13
and
shall
spare my father and mymother and my brothers and my sistersand
all
that they have and
 shall
deliver
our lives from
death.
14
And the men said to her, “Our livesfor yours, if
you do not
expose thismatter of ours, then it
shall
be,
when
HWHY
has
given
us the land, that we
  shall
treat you in
kindness
and
truth
.”
15
So she let them down by a rope
through the window, for her house was
on the city wall and she dwelt on thewall.
16
And she said to them, “Go to themountain, lest the pursuers
come
uponyou. And you
shall
hide there three days, until the pursuers have returned and
afterwards go on your
way.
17
And the men said to her, “We arereleased from this
oath
of yours whichyou have made us swear,
18
unless, when we
come
into the land, you bind this line of
scarlet
cord in the
window through which you let us down
and
unless
you bring your father and
your mother and your brothers and
all
your father’s household to your ownhome.
19
“And it
shall
be
that anyone who
goes outside the
doors
of your houseinto the street, his
blood
is on his ownhead and we are innocent. And anyonewho is with you in the house, his
blood
is on our head if a
hand
is laid on him.
20
“And if you expose this matter of ours, then we
shall
be
released fromyour
oath
which you made us swear.”
21
And she said, “
Let
it be
according
to your
words
.” And she
sent
themaway and they went. And she
bound
the
scarlet
cord in the window.
22
So they left and came to the mountainand stayed there three days until the pursuers returned. And the pursuers
sought them in
all
the
way,
but
did not

nd them.
23
Then
the two men returned and camedown from the mountain and passedover. And they came to Yahusha sonof Nun and related to him
all
that had befallen them.

279
Yahusha 3
24
And they said to Yahusha, “
Truly

HWHY
has
given all
the land into our hands and also,
all
the inhabitants of theland have melted away
because
of us.”
3
And Yahusha rose early in the
morning and they set out from Shittim
and came to the Yard
ĕ
n, he and
all
thechildren of Yisra’
ĕ
l and stayed there before they passed over.
2
And it came to be, after three days,
that the ofcers went into the
midst
of the camp,
3
and they
commanded
the people,
saying, “
When
you
see
the ark of the
covenant
of
HWHY
your
Elohim
andthe priests, the L
ĕ
wites, bearing it, then
you
shall
set out from your place and
 follow
it.
4
“Only, keep a distance between youand it, about two thousand cubits bymeasure.
 Do
not
come near
it, so thatyou
know
which
way
to go, for you
have not passed over this
way
 before.”
5
And Yahusha said to the people, “Setyourselves apart, for
tomorrow

HWHY

is doing
wonders
in your
midst
.”
6
And Yahusha spoke to the priests,
saying, “Take up the ark of the
covenant
and pass over before the people.” Sothey took up the ark of the
covenant
andwent before the people.
7
And
HWHY
said to Yahusha, “This
day I begin to make you
great
 beforethe eyes of
all
Yisra’
ĕ
l, so that they
 know
that
I am with you
as I was withMosheh.
8
“And you,
command
the priestswho bear the ark of the covenant,
saying, ‘
When
you
come to
the edge
of the water of the Yard
ĕ
n,
stand
in theYard
ĕ
n.’ ”
9
And Yahusha said to the childrenof Yisra’
ĕ
l,
“Come
near and
hear
the
words
of
HWHY
your
Elohim
.”
10
And Yahusha said, “By this
you
  shall
know
that the
living
Ĕ
l is in your
midst
and that
He
is certainly driving
out from before you the Kena
anites andthe
ittites and the
iwwites and the
Perizzites and the Girgashites and the
Amorites and the Ye
usites:
11
See,
the ark of the
covenant
of the
 Master
of
all
the earth is passing over
 before you into the Yard
ĕ
n.
12
“And
now
, take for yourselves twelvemen from the tribes of Yisra’
ĕ
l, one manfrom
every
tribe.
13
“And it
shall
be,
as soon as the solesof the feet of the priests who bear theark of
HWHY
, the
Master
of
all
theearth,
come to
rest in the waters of theYard
ĕ
n, that the waters of the Yard
ĕ
n are
 cut
off, the waters that
come
down fromupstream and
stand
as a heap.”
14
And it came to be, when the peopleset out from their tents to pass over theYard
ĕ
n, with the priests bearing the ark
of the
covenant
 before the people,
15
and as those bearing the ark came to
the Yard
ĕ
n and the feet of the priests
bearing the ark dipped in the edge of the
water –
now
the Yard
ĕ
n overows
all
its
 banks during
all
the
time
of harvest –
16
that the waters which came downfrom upstream stood still and rose in aheap
very
far away at A
am, the citythat is beside Tsarethan. And the waters
going down into the Sea of the Ara
ah,the Salt Sea, were
completely
cut
off.And the people passed over oppositeYeri
o.
17
And the priests bearing the ark of the
covenant
of
HWHY
stood rm on dryground in the
midst
of the Yard
ĕ
n. And
 all
Yisra’
ĕ
l
passed

over

on

dry

ground
,until
all
the nation had
completely
  passed over the Yard
ĕ
n.
4
And it came to be, when the entirenation had
completely
passed over the Yard
ĕ
n, that
HWHY
spoke to
Yahusha, saying,
2
“Take for yourselves twelve menfrom the people, one man from
every
tribe,
3
and
command
them, saying, ‘Take
