 November 2011
Dear Friend,Greetings to you on this beautiful November day! With theLord Jesus in our lives we have many things to be thankful for, especiallyeternal life! So every day is a day of thanksgiving.I have found that thankfulness is a choice we make daily. It’s not what Ireceive but what I give to God and others. We live in a world where takingseems more important than giving. But everyone can give thanks. When Jesuswalked this earth He didn’t look for many things. But one thing He did look for was a thankful heart. There is an account in the Bible where Jesus met tenlepers. They all cried out to Him for mercy, “…
and when He saw them, Hesaid unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed”
(
Luke 17:13 & 14
). What amarvelous thing took place! These lepers had an impossible situation remedied by the Lord in a moment’s time. They all were cleansed when they respondedto His Word by faith.
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, andwith a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks: and he was a Samaritan
” (
Verses 15 & 16
). One manout of ten returned to thank the Lord for healing him. What were the othersthinking? Why just one returned to thank the Lord? We actually have manythings in our lives we can be thankful for. When I look around and recognizethe many wonderful people God put in my life, each family member, eachfriend, every person who comes to church and supports the work of God, I findmyself thanking God for all His marvelous gifts of love, mercy and grace. Thisone man came back to thank the Lord before he went on his way to the priests. The priests could wait: the thanks couldn’t. His heart overflowed with gratitudeas he turned to the One who rescued him. Too often we put religion ahead of the praise God deserves. In their religion, they were required to showthemselves to the priests, who would make a determination on their condition. But this man thought being thankful came first: then he would go show himself to the priests.
And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? But whereare the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, savethis stranger. And He said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hathmade thee whole
” (
Luke 17: 17-19
). Jesus looked at thankfulness in terms of
