Uncertain markets, coupled with the escalating demand ordigital alternatives have meant sustained and progressivemail volume decline is the new reality. Buered by thesecompounding elements, postal organizations are acceleratingtheir commitment to the diversication agenda. Indeed, thepressure on the core mail product has encouraged manyoperators to respond by considering pure digital alternatives.Looking orward, the imperative or adaptability can onlyincrease.Achieving High Perormance in the Postal Industry 2011, theourth report in our research series, explores the impact onpostal players throughout a period o severe global recessionand the green shoots o recovery. As mail volumes dropped,margins were squeezed, prices increased, and operationalimprovements were made; but the consequences o economicragility meant the challenges remained signicant. It becameclear that, without action, volumes would continue to declineand the postal industry would reach a point where costsexceeded revenues. So where does the compass o progresspoint next or postal organizations?
Despite many orecasters heralding the digital age and soundingthe death knell or postal organizations in the past decade, thepostal industry is still alive and kicking. However, two years o nancial crisis and an economic slowdown have taken their toll.
