WELCOME
As we celebrate our 12th anniversary and what would have been Diana, Princess of Wales 50th year, we felt it was fitting to expand the award internationally, this venture is being supported by HSBC. The move to begin recognising the selfless work of young people on an international scale is a natural progression that is in keeping with the remarkable charitable work that Diana herself pioneered all around the world. We have also taken the opportunity to re-categorise the award to make it easier to nominate those who make a positive contribution to their communities. The Diana Award now has five categories for individuals and groups of young people aged between 9 and 18. This year, we have proudly welcomed 2,207 new inspirational Award Holders. 200 young people have helped at Diana Award events, ceremonies and taken part in internships. The Diana Award is also recruiting 2,000 Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, a peer-led initiative that provides young people with the confidence to campaign against bullying. For more details turn to page 8. We are delighted that two new Patrons have joined us, The Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron MP, and Lord McConnell, turn to page 4. With a growing network of almost 40,000 Award Holders, we are building a force of young people who are committed to take social action and improve our communities. We never fail to be inspired by the stories of Award Holders and we hope you enjoy reading about how we have celebrated their dedication to make a positive contribution. With warmest wishes,

a wonderful way to leave a living legacy to the late Princess and to recognise our countrys talented and inspirational young people who volunteer, work and campaign for the benefit of others. As a proud patron of the Diana Award, I hope this evenings event helps to showcase some of the remarkable achievements of our young people, and in doing so inspires many more to get involved and make a difference.

ANTI-BULLYING AMBASSADORS
Although the Young Anti-Bullying Alliance has come to an end, the work we piloted with the group has been developed into the Diana Anti-Bullying Ambassadors Programme. The Diana Award has been commissioned by the Department for Education to recruit 2,000 young Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. This peer led programme is crucial in combating bullying in schools, as Ambassadors can influence their peers, act as positive role models and sharing best practices with other young people.
DIANA NETWORK
Every Award Holder is invited to join the Diana Network once they have received their certificate. The network offers young people the opportunity to volunteer, gain new skills and the chance to put these into practice with internships and work placements both in the UK and abroad.

SPOTLIGHT ON . . . NED
Ned received his Diana Award in 2003 for helping a school friend who suffered with muscular dystrophy get to class. Since then Ned has become an active member of the Diana Network, completed various fundraising activities and has helped with hosting and organising Network events. Ned won the Richard Turner and Associates Ltd International Internship competition through the Diana Network. This life-changing opportunity took him to volunteer in Kenya with orphans for one month with Global Vision International. Ned said: Being in Kenya was exciting,
Hi, my names Tom Green and I received my Diana Award in 2003 for anti-bullying work and fundraising lots of money for local and national charities. Since receiving my award I went on to get involved in lots of things the Diana Award got up to; I helped at some award ceremonies (I was even lucky enough to speak at a couple) and also served the Award by becoming an Award Holder Trustee. Things then went one step futher and Im now on staff at the Diana Award which is brilliant! I coordinate Amplify, the flagship group of children and young people, set up by the Diana Award, who advise and inform the work of the Childrens Commissioner for England, Maggie Atkinson, and her office. One key piece of work Amplify have done is consulting with children and young people all over the country about how the Commercial World affects their generation. Their final report went on to be a key piece of evidence in Reg Baileys review on the Commercialisation of Childhood for the Government. Amplify have also been involved in the creation of the Childrens Commissioners Business Plan, the scoping of the their inquiry into School Exclusions and thinking around the Childrens Commissioners Takeover Day in November.

Tariq, aged 13, is an Anti-Bullying Ambassador from Chelsea Academy. I am so happy to be an Anti-Bullying
Ambassador and to be able to start tackling bullying. The training from Speakers Trust was great as it taught me to communicate an important message, that bullying is not ok. I now have good public speaking skills and can use these to get others on board and will present the antibullying message in my school assembly.
informative and scary. The experience of being completely submerged into the culture meant that I was genuinely making a difference in many peoples lives, and it very positively changed the person that I am.

My name is Mathew and I received my Diana Award in 2007. I attended the Diana Network Graduate Day at Barclays and it was brilliant! We were given presentations by the top bankers about the different areas of Barclays and completed a workshop specifically about the large loans that the bank gives out. I found the whole day extremely interesting and useful. All this happened thirty stories above London, so we had a great view of the city all day long! Thanks to the Diana Network I was invited to spend an entire week with the Debt Finance team at Barclays. I shadowed some of the countrys top bankers and even got to sit in on some very important meetings. This has reaffirmed my interest in finance and also given me contacts that I can ask for help from in the future. In the current economic climate, it is extremely difficult to find work, but this placement has definitely bolstered my CV. The best part of my entire time with Barclays has got to be the look of confusion on peoples faces when they saw myself and two other boys on work experience going up to level 31, which is restricted solely to the Chief Executive and his guests!
