Sorry! No photos were found for "Dear Galeane: I received your voicemail message and email request for information. The Midmark is pre-set for sterilization in the two areas California uses for sterilization of instruments, unwrapped and wrapped. Both are preset at 270 degrees which is what our standards require. The pouches setting is not for instruments rather for items such as cotton products, towels, wraps and other surgical items. The IMS cassette system is a system many use for instruments they still require wrapping to meet the Dental Board of California Regulations for Infection Control: (10) Critical and semi-critical instruments or containers of critical and semi-critical instruments sterilized by a heat or vapor method shall be packaged or wrapped before sterilization if they are not to be used immediately after being sterilized. These packages or containers shall remain sealed unless the instruments within them are placed onto a setup tray and covered with an impervious barrier on the day the instruments will be used and shall be stored in a manner so as to prevent contamination. If the IMS cassettes are being sterilized unwrapped on an unwrapped setting, then it is incorrect. If the cassettes are wrapped or packaged, regardless of the type of wrap (could be pouches, could be CSR wrap with tape) the system should be set on pouches in order to get to 270 degrees for at least 15 minutes. I hope this helps the office is required to have a poster set with the DBCs Infection Control regulations posted which refers to the data above.
