The unexpected empathy freed her eyes from the spot where they'd stood thatnight, only to find herself the target of a bitter stare. Emma shrugged and said,"Can't change it, right?""Right," he agreed, the look softening. "Did you know you bite your bottomlip when you're trying to control your temper?""I do not," Emma denied, even though she knew it was true. One side of his mouth lifted into a half-hearted smile and he pushed off thedoorjamb, herding her toward the kitchen. "You do, too. When you were on thephone at lunchtime I thought you'd bite a hole in that thing.""What does that have to do with anything?""Just making an observation. Sit," he ordered.Emma sat on a stool, watching as he pulled things from the fridge. Rubbingher bottom lip, she worried. She couldn't remember biting it while she was on thephone with Peter.Maybe she did it so often the pain didn't register anymore. But that thought dwindled at the sight of fresh walleye fillets and Anthony'sbehind as he bent for a head of lettuce. Now that's just wrong. Emma averted her eyes, yet somehow she was stillwatching as he switched on a small television. That helped. Now she could praythey wouldn't show up on the news.Emma sat quietly staring at the tube until Anthony reached over and pulledher hand away from her mouth. "Stop that.""Stop what?"
