Fort del Pilar, Baguio City. - The Philippine Military Academy Public Information Office todayreleased the names of nine-hundred- forty two (942) successful examinees who took the PMACadet Qualification Test (PMACQT) held last August 31, 2008 in thirty (30) examinationcenters nationwide. There were 8,449 regular and 1,834 walk-in

applicants nationwide who were processedbut only 5,778

qualified to take the examination and 5,652 completed the battery of tests inMathematics, English and a Special PMA Aptitude Test. The successful candidates willconstitute the PMA Class of 2013. For the fourth year now, PMA has accepted applications forthe entrance examination of aspirants who have 85% High School Graded Point Average(GPA) or higher. “This explains why we have lesser examinees now as compared to morethan 10 to 12 thousand examinees in the past”, Captain Agnes Lynnette Flores, PMA PIOexplained. “The strategic move is consistent with the PMA Roadmap 2015 in insuring a higherquality of cadet applicants and appointees”, Flores added.Of the 942 qualifiers, 675 are males and 267 females who passed the PMACQT whichis just the first step of a highly competitive process for PMA cadet aspirants. The candidateswill be moving on to the second stage of a rigid and complete physical fitness test and medicalexamination which will be conducted starting early October. Passers from Mindanao will bescreened in Cagayan de Oro, candidates from the Visayas in Cebu, and those from Luzon atthe AFP Medical Center in Quezon City. They will be notified officially by PMA authorities bymail shortly. The complete list of passers will also be published in some major dailies and atthe PMA Website at
www.pma.ph
.These candidates will compete for at least 300 slots for cadetship. Should more than300 qualify, PMA authorities intend to work it out with the AFP General Headquarters for asmuch as 330 to 350 new cadets to be appointed. PMA is authorized to have a cadetpopulation of 1,100 cadets. Female cadets comprise about 10% to 12 % of the cadetpopulation.“We are glad to have an 18 % passing rate this year compared to last years 16 %”MGen Leopoldo L Maligalig AFP, PMA Superintendent said. “We are also happy that through

the past four years, there have been a marked and continuing increase in the number ofapplicants for cadetship”, Maligalig added.PMA authorities attribute this positive development to a more aggressive marketingstrategy adopted by PMA with the help of the PMA alumni and the major services, ThePhilippine Army, the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Air Force.PMA cadets enjoy a full government scholarship through four years of liberal education;a chance to earn a Bachelor of Science degree upon graduation, and appointment andcommission as Second Lieutenants in the Army or Air Force or Ensigns in the Navy.“I congratulate all those who made it to this first step to a “journey” to cadetship. PMAdoes not only offer these benefits to our young cadet aspirants. PMA is a leadership schooland offers an experience for young Filipinos like no other”, Maligalig added.XXX
