Event Information
What is a Twitter Moot, you ask? WCEL invites you to participate in event that is the first of itskind...
“A moot is a legal debate in a courtroom setting ... In a moot two teams of counsel attempt to
persuade a judge of the strength of their case by reference to legal authority. In a student mootthe teams consist of two pairs of students representing appellant and respondent debating in a
moot problem.” –

University of Aberdeen’s
A Guide to Mooting In other words, a Twitter Moot is a mock courtroom re-enactment done over Twitter.Teams of law students from top universities across Canada will engage in a lively debate on anengaging, controversial and current legal issue in environmental law. Although much of the
etiquette of a law school ‘moot’ will be based on the conventional format, with a panel of judges
determining the ultimate outcome, the template is brand-new. By hosting the moot on-line, West Coast hopes to maximize public participation and awareness on an importantenvironmental issue, the dynamics of the variety of legal arguments being made, and ideas andinput of Canadian law students on these issues.
