An Introduction to Comsol Simulation with a simple 2D object

Comsol Simulation : Initial settings

When you run Comsol from a desktop you will first see the window on the left. Here you can choose a model (2D or 3D), the physics (electromagnetic, heat transfer etc).

When you click OK the main window(shown on the right) will be lunched allowing you to start designing your simulation

Comsol Simulation : Drawing the geometry

You can start you drawing by choosing any of the geometric shapes shown on the side bar on the right of the window. Click on a shape and draw it on the workspace.
You can modify the parameters of the geometry by double clicking on the geometry, a window will be lunched where you can change these parameters

Comsol Simulation : Subdomain settings

Subdomain settings can be accessed from the physics menu on the title bar. A window will be launched where you can set the conductance, permittivity and other setting for the subdomain chosen

Comsol Simulation : Boundary settings

Boundary settings can also be accessed from the physics menu on the title bar. A window will be launched where you can set where and how much current or voltage is applied.

Comsol Simulation : Mesh settings and meshing

You can mesh the design by clicking on the mesh icon on the icon menu. The mesh parameters can be accessed through the Mesh menu. In this window you can choose how fine or coarse the mesh should be. After meshing you can solve the problem by clicking on solve or the equal (=) sign on the icon menu.

Comsol Simulation : Plot parameters

After solving you can view the quantity you want by choosing it in the Plot parameter window. It can be launched from the Postprocessing menu of the tile bar.
You can view the surface plot , the streamline plot, the contour plot etc. The windows beside shows the setting to view electric field streamline and electric potential contour.
