Is Smoking Good for Us?

BeIore we are going to smoke, it is better to look at the Iact. About 50 thousands people die
every year in Britain as direct result oI smoking. This is seven times as many as die in road
accidents. Nearly a quarter oI smokers die because oI diseases caused by smoking.
Ninety percent oI lung cancers are caused by smoking. II we smoke Iive cigarettes a day, we are
six times more likely to die oI lung cancer than a non smoker. II we smoke twenty cigarettes a
day, the risk is nineteen greater. Ninety Iive percent oI people who suIIer oI bronchitis are people
who are smoking. Smokers are two and halI times more likely to die oI heart disease than non
smokers.
Additionally, children oI smoker are more likely to develop bronchitis and pneumonia. In one
hour in smoky room, non smoker breathes as much as substance causing cancer as iI he had
smoked IiIteen cigarettes.
Smoking is really good Ior tobacco companies because they do make much money Irom smoking
habit. Smoking however is not good Ior every body else.

The reading habit among Indonesian students is still low. There are many reasons Ior this Iact.
However it is mainly caused by the high prices oI goos books, scarity oI good books abd ither
activities young people preIer to do.

Firstly, books are relatively expensive in Indonesia. Publisher claim that the prices oI material
and production cost oI books are high and keep increasing. ThereIore books are sold expensicely
and consequently most student cannot aIIord them.
Secondly, iI we browse the bookselves at bookstores it is not easy to Iind real high quality books.
Some books with good topics may have plain and boring designs, while there are also books
which look good but the contents are almost not worth reading.

Thirdly and quite unIortunately nowadays there are many kinds oI activities other than reading,
and the young people preIer doing them. These include watching youth soap operas on TV,
listening to music and songs with meaningless lyrics or just hanging out shopping malls. Such
activities clearly do not oIIer as much learning as the book reading habit does.and clearly they
Iorget the saying a book is a window oI the world.

In conlusion it is clear that the reading habit among Indonesian students is still low Ior the
reasons above. II we expect changes Irom this situation everybody must take part. Students must
be willing to st their preIerence to useIull activity such as reading books

Kebiasaan membaca di kalangan mahasiswa Indonesia masih rendah. Ada banyak alasan untuk
Iakta ini. Namun hal ini terutama disebabkan oleh tingginya harga buku goos, scarity buku bagus
abd ither kegiatan orang muda lebih memilih untuk melakukan.

Pertama, buku relatiI mahal di Indonesia. Penerbit mengklaim bahwa harga-harga bahan dan
biaya produksi buku yang tinggi dan terus meningkat. Oleh karena itu buku yang dijual
expensicely dan akibatnya mahasiswa yang paling tidak bisa membayar mereka.
Kedua, jika kita menelusuri bookselves di toko buku itu tidak mudah untuk menemukan buku
yang sebenarnya berkualitas tinggi. Beberapa buku dengan topik yang baik mungkin memiliki
desain polos dan membosankan, sementara ada juga buku-buku yang terlihat baik tetapi isinya
hampir tidak layak dibaca.

Ketiga dan cukup sayangnya saat ini ada banyak jenis kegiatan lain selain membaca, dan orang-
orang muda lebih memilih melakukannya. Ini termasuk menonton opera sabun remaja di TV,
mendengarkan musik dan lagu-lagu dengan lirik bermakna atau hanya nongkrong pusat
perbelanjaan. Kegiatan-kegiatan tersebut jelas tidak menawarkan sebanyak belajar sebagai
kebiasaan membaca buku does.and jelas mereka melupakan mengatakan buku adalah jendela
dunia.

Dalam conlusion jelas bahwa kebiasaan membaca di kalangan mahasiswa Indonesia masih
rendah karena alasan di atas. Jika kita mengharapkan perubahan dari situasi setiap orang harus
mengambil bagian. Siswa harus bersedia untuk st preIerensi mereka terhadap kegiatan yang
bermanIaat seperti membaca buku
