Austin NAHJs History

At a NAHJ training conference, three area journalists realized there was no official NAHJ chapter in Austin, a surprising realization considering how creative and strong the journalism industry in this city is. At that time, Isadora Vail (Statesman), Crystal Chavez and Angela Maldonado (KUT) committed to establishing a new Austin chapter. Since 2009, Austin NAHJ has hosted a video training conference, mentored UT student journalists, and has offered various social networking events and chances to practice our Spanish! We hope to grow the chapter with the intention of creating a group that offers more training opportunities and times to socialize/trade stories. Although we want to see more Hispanic journalists in Austin area newsrooms, Austin NAHJ is open to all ethnicities. We believe in diversity and alliances.
