Government of Kerala launched Kudumbashree the State Poverty Eradication Mission(SPEM) in 1998 with the active support of Government of India and NABARD for wiping outabsolute poverty within a period of 10 years. The project is implemented through Local Self Governments empowered by the 73

constitutional amendments. The slogan of theMission is “Reaching out to families through Women and reaching out to community throughFamilies.” Kudumbashree Programme covers all the 999 Grama Panchayats, 53 Municipalitiesand 5 Corporations. 187969 NHG’s comprising of women from 36,40,272 families have beenformed 44638 acres of land brought under cultivation with the involvement of 2,34, 812families in 820 Grama Panchayats through lease land farming. 2928 Group and 1093individual enterprises started under Rural Micro enterprises Programme, Grant worthRs.15.17crore are Given. 361 Group and 279 individual innovative enterprises started underYuvashree programme for youth in 18-35 age group, grant worth Rs. 2.11 crore . 30575houses have been sanctioned under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana to the poor familiesin ULB’s across the state.155 Clean Kerala Business units for solid waste management havebeen set up.1406 Women from the Kudumbashree CBO’s elected to the Local Self Government Institutions in the recent Elections.Today 3.6 million women participate in the Kudumbashree movement in the statethrough the CDS system 36 lakh women of state have been organized into 182969 grass rootlevel Neighbourhood groups. Apart from thrift mobilization and on formal banking, the CDSstructure has given birth to 29436 vibrant Micro Enterprises making around 54949 womenowners of these units. 87,715 NHGS linked with banks under linkage banking scheme andassessed funds worth Rs.461.81 crore.The
 
Micro housing loan
 
Scheme for the poor called “Bhavanashree” has been designedby the Kudumbashree mission to meet the housing needs of the poor. The details of Bhavanasree in 2005 in the districts are given in the tables. 41284 loans have beensanctioned under the Bhavanashree micro housing scheme amounting to Rs.168.11 crore.Balasabha are grass root level groups of the Children from NHG families. The missionorganizes the children into Balasabhas as a part of its holistic approach to provideopportunities for personal growth and realization of talent. Balasabhas leave no stoneunturned to boost the healthy growth and development of children. 695183 children havebeen grouped into 40447 Balasabhas.The data regarding to Kudumbashree for the last threeyears are given in the tables
