Apostolic Obedience
By Dr. John PolisThe apostolic message is focused on the “saints coming tomaturity in Christ”. The job we have to do involvingdemolishing a massively corrupt culture cannot be done by“babes or teenagers” in Christ who don’t completelyunderstand how to use the powerful weapons we havebeen given to accomplish our objective. But how do wereach the level of spiritual maturity necessary to fullyrepresent Jesus Christ in work and word?
The key word is“obedience”.
“The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing ormanipulation, but they are for demolishing that entiremassivelycorrupt culture. We use our powerful God
-
toolsfor smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barrierserected against the truth of God, fitting every loosethought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are readyat hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of
obedience intomaturity
”, 2 Corinthians 10:4
-
6 MSG“Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for
obedience to the faith
among all nations for His name,”Romans 1:5 NKJV
Biblical apostleship will bring about “obedience to thefaith”,
rather than obedience to “warped philosophies”because the apostolic anointing is a powerful tool of theSpirit that can demolish the lies of the enemy with awisdom that cannot be disputed. This kind of wisdom is
amark of maturity
among those who have lived a life of obedience to Christ as Lord.
Having been delivered from the “spirit of disobedience”inherited from Adam (Ephesians 2:1
-
4), the new believerin Christ should be taught the necessity of “learning
obedience” (Hebrews 5:8) immediately upon conversion.
Our inherited blessings can be obtained thru faith thatcomes by hearing the Word of God, but “
maturity” canonly come thru obedience
, the kind of maturity that canwield the apostolic tools of demolition that are neededfor the challenge we face in a “crooked and perversegeneration”.Jesus as a young man entered the synagogueattempting to use the powerful tools of ministryamong the sophisticated religious leaders of the day
b
ecause he had obtained “knowledge” as a Jewish ladstudying the Scriptures. However, as we can readfrom the passage in Luke 2:42
-
52, Jesus was not yet“mature” enough to enter the arena of battle wherehe was
called to wage apostolic warfare.
After he returned with his parents to Nazareth and
“
became subject (obedient) to them, he increasedin wisdom and stature, and in favor with God andmen”, Luke 2:50
-
52.
Jesus learned to obey fromyouth and developed the mature wisdom necessary asa result of that obedience.Where are the apostolic people today that can carrythe “tools of ministry” into the arena of battle beingwaged on the Seven Mountains of Culture? They comefrom the ranks of those who have learned obediencefrom the early stages of development and have thewisdom to wage a good warfare. Jesus manifested thiswisdom on the Mount of Temptation when the devilleft him looking for a better opportunity that neverdid appear. He manifested this wisdom when facingthe bitter Pharisees who sought to trap him bytwisting the Word of God to their own meaning. Inevery instance Jesus’ reply was, “The Wisdom of Godhas said....”
As apostolic leaders in today’s Church
,
we mustrestore the message of “obedience” so that we canproduce the kind of mature people that can be “sentforth” to “take the land”. It is vital to teach God’speople the Apostolic Faith Message so that they canreceive all of their inheritance, but it is just as vitalto teach Apostolic Obedience so that wisdom andmaturity can be developed in our generation.
Maturity only comes through obedience.
