Media Evaluation Question 3 I have received feedback throughout the duration of time that Ive been doing this

s piece of coursework, some has been positive, some has also been negative, albeit, all feedback giving me guidance as to where I can improve. The main sources of feedback, on improvement, was those of my teachers, they were the people who knew the criteria that I had to reach, they were also experienced, having taught this piece of coursework previously, therefore they knew what worked, and what didnt. The first piece of feedback I received was from my teacher Mr Smith informing me, that I my song choice Who Can Say by The Horrors was acceptable, and a solid choice. This was positive for me, because it meant I was able to use a song that fitted my favourite genre, the Indie/alternative category. The next step for me was to start finding other music videos from this genre, and analysing them, to see what features are present, and also to see if I could use any of these features within my music video. I also was given feedback when I was making these music analysis videos, from my teacher Mr. Smith, which was

This is the kind of feedback I needed, because it is an imperative message, forces you to make the changes, it clears everything that needs to be done, and the reason behind why you need to do it as well.. Once I had decided on my genre and song choice, it was time to start debating ideas on a band name, it took me quite a while to think of a band name, because I wanted to come up with a name that really fitted in with the indie genre, a name that you would expect to find belonging to a real band. Eventually I came up with The Mirrors Image, once I had decided this, Mr Smith and Mrs Abrahamson both accepted the name, although they did tell me that it was optional to shorten the name to simply, The Mirrors, but after deliberating, and I decided to keep the name as its original. For two reasons, the pragmatic meaning, and the song title that it also shares, the former being it pragmatic meaning that it implies What you see is what you get and the latter because the name is also a song by British indie band, The Horrors, and personal favourite of mine, and also band who have had a lot influence over this piece of coursework. When it came to the band image, I discussed the image I wanted the band to portray, being an indie fan myself, I realised the potential outfits and characteristics of the band, once I had the image sorted, I discussed the style I was looking to portray, and asked people who were the potential audience, two peers, Pat Mills and Jack Ludford, two followers of the indie scene, and they both agreed with the image portrayal of The

Mirrors Image. Once again Mr. Smith, who has constantly tracked my blog, came up with this comment

I believe it is a good produce images of your findings, because it will clear up any queries people may have over your writing. I also realised I always needed to follow Mr Smiths advice, because he tells what you need to improve, according to examiners preferences, therefore what he tells you to do, will usually give you a push to receive extra marks. For my Digipak, I wanted to recreate a blurred image, as The Horrors did with Primary Colours, after discussing this with Mr Smith I decided that I was going to follow the Rorschach physiological dimension, this was a popular choice amongst my peers, who backed up the idea, and claimed it was creative, and fitted into my genre. After I had completed my pitch, there was only one burning question, and this question was where am I planning to film my video, what locations was I going to be using, this question was asked by Alex Wilson, in response to his question, I informed the class I was planning to film outdoors, to fit in with the dark lyrics that the song follows. This was the one thing that changed drastically, due to self realisation, and feedback from all peers and teachers. I did not receive feedback for my draft, simply because I did not complete one, every time I went to film on three different occasions, downpours of rain, lets just say, prevented it. The one piece of feedback that I did receive from absolutely everybody FILM INDOORS! this enforced me to take to the stage to film indoors. Which turned out to be the right decision, because now the weather could not influence my work, and I had no excuses to leave work unfinished. After I had completed my final video, I couldnt make any improvements obviously since it was my final piece, although I was still given feedback, people gave me opinions on what they thought of the video. I predominantly asked males, more so than females, this was because originally, I said The Mirrors Image would attract males, more so than females. Here are the views of people I asked. I gave people the option to stay anonymous, and a few desired to use this option. Pat Mills: Good Camera Shots, Fits the indie genre, I could see the band on television, Mise en Scene could have been better, continuity could been improved, overall, better than first imagined Harry Simmons; Like the close ups, like that not many long shots were used, makes it look more like an actual music video, Mise en Scene could has left you something to be desired, considering, I thought youd collapse after not having a draft, you did me proud

Callum Wills: Organised well in the end, outfits suited the band, could see them on my television, band suited the song, not sure if the performers did well enough Sam Green: Better than expected, camera looks shaky, but the shots looked good, drumming beat when editing mid way through looks good Anonymous: Didnt like the venue, outfits were good, frontman didnt look like the rest, good shots, average editing (it doesnt look bad), like the close ups Anonymous: The band dont look theyre trying, the venue could have been better, but it doesnt look shameful, edited fairly well, and the shots look good I received mixed reviews for the final video, a common occurrence was the controversial Mise en Scene, it wasnt my first my choice, although it turned out to be best option after I was given no alternative to but to film indoors. Im satisfied with the opinions on my use of camera angles, I used the close ups to remove all the irrelevant parts of shot. I was also content with the image of the band, this was because during the band image, I said The Mirrors Image were a band who mixed two styles, an oasis esque, confidence/arrogance approach, and then the more 80s styled boater jacket, as seen on the frontman, so I believed I handled that aspect reasonably well. Finally, I believe the expectations of the examiners, and their opinions are vital, at the end of the day, they will be the ones who are judging you. Therefore it would pointless to do something that they are completely against, because you are likely to receive little to no praise for it. Hence why I believe it is important to listen to what the teachers inform you, because although they will have their own preference, they will still give you guidance and feedback according to the preference of the examiners. Below are different comments from both of my teachers, advice that I have taken on board, due to knowing that the examiners will have an influence on the feedback they have given to me
