As
youmay have heard,portions
of
AlabamaAct 2011-535,commonly known
as
the"ImmigrationAct," are nowin effect. Webelievethis lawaffects yourdepartment'ssale
of
watermetersand water service
to
new
cu
stomers.Beforeselling a watermeteror waterservice to
an
individual,certainmeasures mustbe taken
to
ensure that individual is a UnitedStatescitizen or
is
otherwise lawfully present in theUnitedStates. Before sellingawatermeter or waterservice
to
a generalpartnership, thesamemeasures must be taken
to
ensureeach partnerisa UnitedStates citizenorisotherwise lawfullypresent in the United States.Theserequirements
do
notapply
to
corporations, limited liabilitycompanies,limitedliabilitypartnerships,orexistingcustomers.
If
anindividual claims to bea UnitedStates citizen,requirethem
to do
two things:
1.
He/she must provideone
of
the documents listed onExhibitA
to
this memo; and
2.
He/she mustinitialtheapplicableline andsignthe declarationattached
as
ExhibitB
to
this memo.
If
an
individual claims he/sheisnot a UnitedStates citizenbut is, instead,
an
alien present in theUnited States lawfully, require them
to do
two things:
I.
He/she must provide one
of
thedocumentslistedon ExhibitC
to
this memo; and
2.
He/she must initial the applicable line and sign the declaration attached

is
operated by the United States Department
of
Homeland Security. Once Madison County
is
fully registered, each individual who claimshe/she
is
