objective of the visit was to strengthen Gujarats relation with China; by inviting Chinese investments into the state and by promoting trade relations. The visit helped in generating the desired interest. Our focus during the visit was on exploring tie-ups in infrastructure, culture, telecom & technology. Lot of interest has been generated among Chinese companies in these sectors. We expect Chinese investments in infrastructure, solar panel manufacturing, semi-conductor, renewable energy, port development and high value-added products. Several political and business meetings were held with the Chinese government and business leaders. The interest generated through these meetings was so significant that a delegation of textile machinery manufacturing companies will be visiting the state during the week starting 14th November 2011 to explore investment opportunities. We have also initiated dialogue on providing better flight connectivity from Ahmedabad to Beijing and Shanghai. According to a forecast, the Chinese investment in India is expected to reach USD 100 billion over the next five years. We target to attract at least 10 per cent of these investments into Gujarat. Honble Chief Minister has invited Chinese business community and public enterprises to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013. This visit has thus widened our horizons and has put forth a progressive partnership with China for us.

FMCG companies also moving fast to be a part of Gujarats rising industrial hub, Sanand
After witnessing the rush of automobile majors, Sanand near Ahmedabad - a major industrial cluster, being developed by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation - is now fast emerging as an attractive location for FMCG giants. One of the firsts to join the bandwagon has been the oral and dental hygiene products manufacturer Colgate Palmolive, which is planning a greenfield facility at an industrial estate in Sanand. One of the most trusted brands in dental care, personal care and home care, Colgates fifth facility in India is expected to come up at an estimated investment of Rs. 200 crore for which approximately 1,00,000 sq meters of land has been allotted. Another major investor is TBEA, a Chinese company which plans to set up a transformer manufacturing unit with Foreign Direct Investment of Rs. 500 crore. The power equipment maker, TBEA Energy and its Indian counterpart based in Gurgaon, TBEA Energy India Ltd plan to set up a Green Energy Park in a phased manner, with a total projected investment of Rs 2,500 crore. The first phase consists of building TBEA Ultra High Voltage Transformer plant. Apart from transformers the company manufactures high voltage electric aluminium foil and assembly base on key parts of solar energy equipment among others. The reputed Japanese company Hitachi Limited has also tied up with Gandhinagar based Hi-Rel to set up power electronics equipments for the power sector. The facility will manufacture motor control devices variable frequency drive medium voltage applications-for power plants of 2MW and 5 MW capacity. Other industries planned include US based Allied Mineral Product Incorporation, which is building a monolithic refractory project and Corning which plans to set up a facility for manufacturing optical fibres. Automotive components and engineering company Bosch too plans to invest approximately Rs 275 crore to set up a unit at Sanand. Sanand which enjoys proximity to a mega city like Ahmedabad, is one of the fine examples demonstrating positive and wide spread impact of urbanization. It was declared a satellite town of Ahmedabad by Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India in 2009 and confirms its importance in absorbing the citys industrial and infrastructure growth with abundant land resources, independent economy, fast and low cost of travel to attract resources and manpower and effective communication services. Being planned with its own municipality, Sanand is witnessing development of sound urban infrastructure facilities like transport, water, sewerage and solid waste management. Due to its proximity to Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and presence of Special Investment Regions (SIRs), the location is ideal for industrial developments. Comprehensive efforts on part of GIDC and state as well as local urban development departments are sure to catapult the location on the national industrial map. Its claim to fame the prestigious Tata Nano plant which shifted from West Bengal is a testimony to its growing attractiveness as an investment destination among foreign and national investors alike.

The government on its part is following a well defined and planned strategy. Going further the government plans to set up non polluting industries on the land acquired. Pharmaceuticals, Agro food, medical devices, plastic engineering and general engineering are sectors which government would look at promoting for this industrial estate. Setting up allied industries to complement the Auto hub that Sanand is emerging like engineering is also very much on the cards.
