Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007

PART 1: Dr. Symeon Rodgers Notes Introduction:

Im Dr. Symeon Rodger I have spent 35 years studying the ancient world's traditions of health, spiritual life, martial arts In most ancient traditions, all of these are considered one issue. They are not separate compartments of life. My obsession since I was young has been: How does this all work? How you optimize human life? I've been involved in numerous Chinese, Japanese and Okinawan martial arts I have studied Taoist approaches to health and longevity in detail I have studied Tibetan and Indian Ayurvedic approaches as well I have practiced all kinds of physical exercise systems I studied numerous approaches to nutrition My mission tonight is to give you the distilled essence of all of this as a simple, immediately usable health plan which, if you follow it, will put you in the best health and the best physical shape of your life And that means health not just in a physical sense, but also mentally and emotionally you will be far healthier and happier Let's get started! How often do you see advertisements that say, "take this one product or do this one exercise or wear this bracelet or believe this, etc. and all your health problems will be permanently solved." Just look in any health magazine or watch television for an hour and you'll see numerous examples There are a whole bunch of traps here The first is what I call the silver bullet approach This says that a single product or action will create the health you want Burn this into your brain: there is no single silver bullet of health and anyone who says otherwise is trying to sell you something There is no single product you can use and no single action you can undertake so powerful that it can overcome the negative effects of your other poor health practices The truth: there are five silver bullets of health and you must apply all of them if you want robust health, superior immunity and inspiring longevity The second trap: this is what I call the chemical approach: The Western mind has a Newtonian worldview. We tend to look at things in a mechanistic way. This explains why our medical paradigm treats the body as

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 a machine, where health is achieved by adding substances or parts, or by removing parts a don't work We see this in the chemical approach: the obsession with insuring the body gets exactly the right amount of this or that nutrient, this number of calories, etc. For example, when you see someone in obssessing about whether their Omega 3 intake is perhaps a little to low or too high, you see someone caught up in the chemical approach the truth: ancient and modern Taoist masters who lived well past 100 in great health did not get there by using the chemical approach The chemical approach also blinds us to other aspects of equal importance, such as the energetic quality of foods There is a difference between what a food has (in a chemical sense) and the effect that food does in your body But: this does not mean we should entirely disregard the chemical approach either In issues of health, always avoid extreme positions The third trap is what I call "fighting disease": We live in a culture that teaches us to fight disease. That means we ignore the body until something goes wrong and then we try to figure out ways to eliminate unpleasant symptoms There is very little interest in prevention, either among the general population or in the Western medical paradigm For that matter, prevention itself is a negative concept Burn this into your brain: if you want health, you must to dedicate yourself to creating health every day, and you must not succumb to a strategy of fighting disease To do this, you must take action on several fronts, and these actions will set you apart from almost everyone else around you. Is that so bad? Do you really want the health results of everyone around you? I dont think so! Burn this into your brain: if you do what everyone else does, you will get the results that everyone else gets Now, I'm going to give you a health paradigm I want you to memorize and use all the time This is the IOTA paradigm I=Input, O=Output, T=Throughput, A=Alpha State First, please understand that your body and mind are not separate entities They are part of a single psychosomatic organism Input is whatever goes into this psychosomatic organism Output is whatever comes out of that psychosomatic organism Throughput is how well things circulate within that organism The Alpha State: this does not refer to a particular frequency of brain waves, but rather to Alpha in the sense of original or what is truly natural We attain health by returning to our natural state of being

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 So IOTA means that health can be reduced to this: your health is based on what goes into your system, what comes out, and how well everything circulates within. And all that, when optimized, returns you to your Alpha state. Very important: when we talk about input, output and throughput, we are talking about something that applies on every conceivable level: the chemical level, the energetic level, level of thought and emotion, etc. Our next issue is how you can sift through the massive amount of health information coming at you every day and avoid the health information overload So here are some rules of thumb: First: whenever you see an article on health in the general media (this means in daily newspapers or non-specialized magazines or questionable web sites), I want you to train yourself to pay no attention to it whatsoever. None! When you see a health article in a health magazine or on health-related web site, then you should feel free to read it, but you need to reserve judgment You need to judge everything according to the theory your learning here. This means you discard whatever does not agree with this theory. If you hear something different than what I'm telling you now, don't readily believe it. Despite what you may think, this is not arrogance. Please understand: what I'm telling you now is based on 5000 years of research. Modern research may confirm these findings, but it's not going to contradict them. You must understand that the health world is full of fads. I came across an article a very few years ago claiming that fasting was dangerous to your health. I chuckled of course, knowing the history of fasting in great historical detail, having practiced it myself and living in a community of people who do so as well. There was nothing at all scientific about the article of its findings. The authors simply had an axe to grind. And now, of course, you will find numerous books and articles on the health benefits of fasting! As Mark Twain put it: "beware of reading books on health: you may die of a misprint." Summary: there are numerous traps and false beliefs on health Your basic paradigm is IOTA There are five main pillars of health and you must address all of them if you want health, immunity and longevity Much of what I'm telling you tonight is based on Chinese medicine. However, we simply cannot get into the details Chinese medicine here. There is no point in going into long explanations of the three treasures, the four foundations, the five energies, the six evils, the seven emotions, or the eight indicators. That would be complex theory and would not give you the powerful, simple steps required to change your health now However, everything you're about to hear is in line with this 5000-year-old tradition

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 But it has been updated to take into account the situation we live in and the health resources we have on hand. Tonight is the basics only, but a) the basics always give you most of your results, and b) the advanced stuff doesnt work unless youve done the basics already.

Pillar One: Cleansing

It is imperative to cleanse your organism from accumulated toxins. These toxins come from your food supply, your water supply, the air you breathe, and from man-made electromagnetic radiation in your environment. These toxins exist on both the chemical and energetic levels The primary location for detoxification is the bowel (also known as the large intestine or colon) The small intestine is part of the problem too The origin of large numbers of health problems can be found in what is called autointoxication This has nothing to do with your automobile - it simply means "self poisoning" Western eating habits, including the low fiber diet of refined foods, poor food combining, sedentary lifestyle, poor hydration and other factors have all led to a series of compromises in the health of the bowel And as the bowel goes, so goes the entire organism Here we are talking primarily about output. If output is clogged, throughput is compromised. When elimination is not complete through the bowel, putrified fecal matter begins to coat the walls the bowel This putrified fecal matter becomes toxic and leaches toxins into the bloodstream over time, thereby poisoning the cells of your body. Eventually this overwhelms the cells ability to defend themselves This also compromises the health of the bowel itself, resulting in such things as irritable bowl syndrome (IBS), diverticulitis, Crohn's disease and prolapse of the bowel itself (when the colon, particularly the transverse part of the colon, becomes so weighted down that it detaches from its normal place and falls down). It has been estimated that the average person in Western society is carrying 10 to 15 lbs. of extra, unprocessed toxic matter in the bowel The famous actor, John Wayne, had 75 lbs. in his bowel at the time of death Naturally, the compromise in bowel health is reflected in constipation This is a classic example of blocked output compromising throughput In other words, toxins build up because they cannot be eliminated properly or in a timely fashion A large percentage of the population does not even eliminate once a day on a regular basis If the bowel is functioning properly, you eliminate at least once a day, very thoroughly, and with no straining. Page 5 of 22

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 The perestaltic reflex, which is the natural urge to eliminate after taking in more food, is compromised over time so that constipation becomes a chronic problem There is a graduated approach to cleansing: First, you must understand that cleansing the bowel will also cleanse the blood and the cells of your body The first and most important priority is this: you must relieve constipation and restore the perestaltic reflex to normal function The fastest and easiest way to do this is to introduce extra fiber into your diet in the form of special supplements. The supplements are usually based on psyllium seed husk - one of the most useful natural substances for this purpose sometimes with certain herbs added In the written resources for this course, I will give you what I believe to be the most effective product for accomplishing this That said, you can also find products in any health food store that will accomplish the same thing. The trick is finding a product that is effective enough to work while at the same time being gentle enough to use on a regular basis. The product I recommend is one of very few that meet these criteria, in my experience. The second approach is more far-reaching: this is colonic hydrotherapy Colonic hydrotherapy involves flushing out the bowel with water. It is far deeper and more effective than an enema Fiber products, in my experience, do not eliminate putrified fecal matter. Colonic hydrotherapy does. The story of Victor Irons: Victor was diagnosed with a severe form of arthritis while in his forties sometime in the 1940s. Unwilling to accept permanent disability, he did considerable research into health and used detoxification to totally eliminate the disease. He then spent the next half-century of his very long life (he died at the age of 98) teaching as many people as he could about how to create health. Colonic hydrotherapy was the cornerstone of his system. Dr. Norman Walker and Dr. Bernard Jensen are two further examples of 20thcentury healers who used this approach, combined with a diet of living foods, to bring people to extraordinary levels of health. It's interesting to note that Dr. Norman Walker lived to the age of about 109 and the Dr. Bernard Jensen lived to the age of 99. You can have colonic hydrotherapy done professionally in a clinic You can also do it in the comfort of your own home, where it requires equipment worth about $200. It is in fact very easy to do it on your own. People who are serious about health should consider colonic hydrotherapy about two to four times per year The third approach is fasting Unlike colonic hydrotherapy, fasting is something you can do more regularly Fasting triggers the cleansing reflex in the human body once the body has gone 24 hours without solid food

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 Wild animals fast when they are ill - automatically Many cultures have used fasting as a primary healing method We're not talking here about fasting for spiritual purposes, although the two are related In addition to going without food for specified periods of time in order to trigger the cleansing reflex, fasting also refers to living on a light diet Interestingly enough, research on animals has shown that if the animals calorie intake is reduced substantially, its lifespan will increase by 40 to 60% The fact is, digestion requires a tremendous amount of energy on ongoing basis This may explain why monastics and ascetics in various spiritual traditions who practice fasting and live on a very light diet have long life spans The fact is, many people today overeat on a chronic basis Sometimes this is for emotional reasons, of course, but with many people it is simply the fact that they have trained themselves to do this So part of fasting is to train the body to be happy with what it really needs, rather than what it wants Fasting can also be used in conjunction with colonic hydrotherapy, and this is exactly what Victor Irons did One of the most useful approaches to fasting is this: one day per week, go on a liquid diet of nothing but purified water, green tea and a small amount of natural fruit juice. Specified regimes of supplements may or may not be added, depending whose advice you follow. Warning: do not overdue cleansing In the world of yin and yang, cleansing is yin. In other words, cleansing demineralizes the body and tends to flush out healthy bacteria from the bowel The body is not meant to cleanse on a permanent basis, but only intermittently The yang part of the equation is eating! When you cleanse, you must know how you feel before, during and after During the process you may not feel well at all! The detoxification reflex releases toxins currently held in bodily tissues and this may result in flu-like symptoms It's very important to use bentonite clay during detoxification, since the clay absorbs toxins and takes them out of your system in an extremely effective manner Michael will talk more about this tomorrow night Summary: 1) Get your bowel eliminating properly by adding a fiber product to your diet 2) Begin regular fasting in a slow and deliberate way, keeping track of your results 3) Consider colonic hydrotherapy in the future

Pillar Two: Fueling

Remember the old saying, "you are what you eat" This a play on words in some other languages, where the word "is" and the word "eat" sound the same That shows the close relationship between being (health) and eating in the minds of many peoples After cleansing comes fueling, where fueling has to do with every kind of input into your system, but particularly in Pillar Two, it has to do with diet and nutrition So after your output mechanisms have been cleansed, you need high-quality input in a nutritional sense When people first think about improving their health, they often turn to nutrition immediately and try to improve their diets without having first undertaken steps to cleanse the system or to ensure that the output mechanisms are working When the colon is compromised, one of the main results is the system is not able to absorb properly the valuable nutrition you're putting into it So people often spend a great deal of money on supplements, for instance, without being able to absorb the full benefits of what the supplements offer Paradoxically, the first step in improving your diet is not adding new, higher-quality foods Step one: you must first eliminate all harmful foods from your diet It does no good to add some healthy foods on top of large quantities of unhealthy ones Here is a list of what you need to eliminate: o all refined grains and refined flours (e.g., white flour, white rice, white bread, etc.) o white sugar (and brown sugar) o refined table salt o all hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, shortening (transfats) o antibiotics and growth hormones found in most commercial meat o pesticides and herbicides found in non-organic produce We dont have time here to go over the reasons for avoiding each of these just understand that these items are very dangerous to your health in the long run. Heres a phrase you should know: "if it's white and in your kitchen, throw it out!" This applies to many dairy products as well: most dairy products (with the notable exception of fermented products like yogurt and kefir) have far less

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 nutritional value than advertised and in many people they tend to clog the colon (many of the best nutritional sources will advise total abstinence from dairy products. However, for people who are not lactose intolerant, I don't believe some dairy presents a serious problem) Step two: balance your blood sugar First: eliminate sweets and desserts from your diet Second: eliminate unnecessary (and nutritionally useless) carbohydrates from your diet, such as pasta, potatoes, bread, soda pop. Third: increase your intake of leafy green vegetables If you are like most people, a diet composed of quality proteins, quality vegetables (especially leafy green vegetables) and some fruit will make you feel immensely better and give you far more energy. Step three: lighten your diet Worldwide research for millennia has concluded that a lighter diet not only contributes to longevity, but it also invigorates the mind and enables you to think more easily and clearly This does not necessarily mean becoming a vegetarian It does mean limiting your intake of heavy foods, particularly red meat, fowl and dairy products, all of which have an acidifying affect on your system. Hyperacidity is a by-product of the Western diet and is very dangerous most disease conditions thrive in an acidic environment. Conversely, they cant survive in an alkaline environment. Everything youve learned up to this point about fueling will vastly increase your energy level In the cooked food vs. raw food debate, the intelligent place to be is right in the middle. We cant go into the reasons for that now, but its important to eat both raw and cooked food. Cooked in this sense means cooked intelligently, not cooked to death! Step four: intelligent use of supplements This is an ongoing debate. Many people believe that they "should" be able to get all their nutrients from what they eat Well, I have news for you: for a number of reasons this is no longer possible in the modern Western world Large-scale agriculture has often denatured the soil so that many forms of produce no longer carry the necessary quantities of trace elements your metabolism desperately needs (selenium is a good example) Other forms of commercially produced produce are harvested too soon and therefore lack their natural nutrient content (oranges, for example, are often picked too soon and come to you with little or no vitamin C in them) Then there is the pharmaceutical mentality: people are afraid to take supplements because they think they will become dependent on them, as sometimes happens with pharmaceutical drugs This is a false conclusion: the fact is, people have used the supplements for thousands of years

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 So taking supplements is really like the mortar between the bricks of your house. If there is no mortar, the bricks can come apart easily. The purpose of supplements, therefore, is simply to make sure that you are getting the nutrients your body needs on a regular basis Recommendation: find a multipurpose vitamin, mineral, phyto-nutrient supplement in liquid form (to ensure it is easily absorbed) and to take it regularly See the resource section below for further suggestions Water: theres a current fad to overdo water consumption. Yes, you need to keep yourself better hydrated than the previous generation did. My parents generation seemed to exist on caffeine and alcohol. That is a recipe for disaster. Sources of water the debate still rages on. I would advise you to seek further information at www.mercola.com. Also, before your start building your new diet, you should do two things. The first, obviously, is listen to what Michael Morningstar is telling you in the other half of this series! The second is to go back to Dr. Mercolas website (www.mercola.com) and take the test for determining your metabolic type. Different metabolisms require different diets and this test will help you in finding whats right for you.

Pillar 3: Energizing
Energy determines your quality of life Input, output and throughput all depend on energy Although cleansing and fueling provide or free up large amounts of energy, what were talking about here is exercise! We mean not just exercise in the Western sense of the word That is what we call "external exercise" There is also "internal exercise"-exercises the deal directly with your body's energy system External and internal exercise are both essential-it is not that one is better than the other. Theyre complementary There are 3 main types of external exercise: endurance training, strength training, and flexibility training You need all three Endurance training is important for very well-known reasons related to the cardiovascular system At the same time, it is important to do it in moderation (modern marathons are an example of the opposite of moderation-it seems that in nearly every major marathon, one of the runners, usually an experienced one by the way, drops dead of a heart attack. Of course, that's also what happened to the first guy you ever ran a marathon! Youd think we would take the hint)

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 Endurance training, like all other forms of exercise, increases throughput. In other words it improves circulation of vital elements within your psychosomatic system. Lymph fluid, which is vital to your immune system, is only circulated by moving. Exercise also improves the circulation of blood, the circulation of your body's energy (qi), spinal fluid, etc. There are obviously many forms of endurance training: running, cycling, walking, swimming, martial arts, dance, sports It is really important to find one you like In the pre-industrial age, people got their exercise naturally at work. Since most of our work now is mental work, few of us can do this anymore. Strength and flexibility training are important for similar reasons: Your body's energy pathways travel through the soft tissue and that is why it is vital to exercise muscles, tendons, ligaments and fasciae These tissues need to be exercised, stretched and maintained in good order to facilitate the flow of energy in the body All three forms of external exercise also provide a certain amount of vital massage to the internal organs In general, movement creates health There is an ancient Chinese saying: "the door that is always in use never has rusty hinges." There is a vital mental and emotional component to this as well: physical wellbeing is linked to mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Welll cover more of this below Strength training: weightlifting is not the best method of strength training The most effective method is body-weight exercise This involves forms of exercise which use your body's weight as resistance in order to build deep core strength and soft tissue fitness Push-ups, sit-ups, chin-ups, squats and other similar exercises are very good examples of this Body builders have huge muscles, but they often lack the old functional strength In other words, theyre unable to bring as much force to bear as many people with far smaller muscles but who are well-trained, such as amateur wrestlers, some martial artists, gymnasts, etc. In martial arts, if you look at the photos of the top people of the 20th century, you will see that few if any of them have body builder physiques The body builder physique compromises speed, flexibility and power, so this is not a good way to go if you want to train strength See the resource section for my best recommendation about an external exercise program that I am unbelievably happy with, having done it now for over a year and seen incredible results Sticking to your exercise program: Determination and persistence are things I cannot give you. We want you to succeed but we cannot do it for you. Page 11 of 22

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 Results are vital: it is important to know your goals and to track your results, because concrete results supply an enormous amount of motivation There are two types of goals in fitness: performance goals and accomplishment goals Performance goals relate simply to doing the exercises you set out to do. For example, if I decide I want to do 50 Asian push-ups and 50 squats five days per week, that is my performance goal Accomplishment goals relate to things you cant yet do but would like to, such as being able to run five km., being able to touch your toes while keeping your legs straight, etc. Do I like doing my Asian push-ups? No. However, I will keep doing them because I love the results! So how strong is your desire for superior health and fitness? See the resource section for more information Internal exercise: internal exercise works your body's energy system in a more direct way It also reintegrates mind and body This is a terribly important topic, but we don't have time for it here If you are studying my Rock Solid Tranquility course on the ancient art of Hara, then you know what this is about (see www.OceanofCalm.com) Internal exercise slows down the mind and allows you to reach deeper levels consciousness It engages the parasympathetic nervous system, which allows you to enter into deep relaxation The best-known forms of the internal exercise are yoga, tai chi and Qi Gong All of these have their own strengths and weaknesses Yoga provides superb stretching to help smooth out energy pathways However, its breathing methods are not always the best, safest or most reliable, particularly for Western people they have been criticized by both Chinese Taoists and Japanese Zen practitioners. This is not necessarily a reason to avoid Yoga, by the way its simply a note of caution. Tai chi is great, if you are taught the internal components of the art by a competent teacher In general, the quality of yoga teaching may be marginally superior to the quality of tai chi teaching in North America. That said, there are many competent Tai Chi teachers here and even some true masters. Tai chi's weakness: the complexity of the moves is related to their martial arts function - tai chi is an extremely powerful martial art This complexity has no particular health function or benefit, even though tai chi practice on a consistent basis has enormous health benefits Qi Gong is generally easier and faster to learn than tai chi The problem is that Qi Gong is not at all standardized It is not always well taught, either

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 There are many types: Qi Gong for health purposes, spiritual purposes, healing purposes and martial arts purposes So finding the right kind with the right teacher is not easy The Hara program (www.OceanofCalm.com) is, in my opinion, the best allaround introduction to Qi Gong you'll find anywhere. It enables you to manage or even eliminate stress and anxiety, to enter into stillness and deeper forms of consciousness critical to cultivating longevity. It also teaches you how to incorporate the deep relaxation from your practice into every moment of real life. The lack of a way to successfully transition from the deep relaxation of stillness to the demands of everyday life is a major flaw of many other presentations of the internal arts See the resource section for other suggestions Summary: don't wait until after you have finished cleansing and fueling in order to begin energizing. Begin now! Get checked out physically first Then set realistic performance goals and accomplishment goals Find forms of external exercise you enjoy doing and make sure they incorporate endurance training, strength training and flexibility training If you don't like it, don't do it! Personally I hate distance running! (Sprinting, I love) Then finding an internal exercise system that you enjoy practicing and someone competent to guide you through it.

Pillar 4: Calming
Recent studies at major medical centers, such as Harvard and Stanford, have concluded that stress is the major contributing factor to serious degenerative disease Stress in this sense is not merely psychological stress with physical symptoms, but also environmental stress on the cellular level By reducing this with cleansing and fueling, you will also reduce your psychological stress level Psychological stress and anxiety are a huge problem in our society Pillars 1-3 help to reduce this somewhat Here, though, we're addressing the root causes If you're listening to this, you probably are vaguely aware of my 35 years of research into what I call authentic ancient traditions of spiritual life, health maintenance and martial arts These traditions have a common position: stillness, defined as the absence of conscious thought, is the natural state the human person This does not mean that thinking is evil Page 13 of 22

Copyright MMVII by Rock Solid Life Systems

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 It merely means that our obsessive thinking, the kind of thinking that controls you and takes over your inner world, is not natural This kind of obsessive thinking is a huge energy drain and a major threat to health, immunity and longevity It also results in a curious split between the mind and the body Longevity, on the other hand, is preserved by mind-body unity These traditions also have another common position: the normal state of the human being is to have your mental attention inside your physical body We cant spend much time on that right now. If you're working with our Hara material, or if youve read The 5 Pillars of Life, you already know what this means The opposite to this is having your mental attention directed outward through the senses of sight, hearing, etc. These positions are common to approaches as diverse as Buddhism, Taoism, and Eastern Orthodox Christianity. So calming means: o calming your thoughts in order to attain inner stillness o reintegrating your mind and body Both meditation and prayer, if done properly (and they rarely are), can bring this about Certain types of exercise with a meditative element can also contribute greatly, such as the internal exercise as we talked about before The most basic form of meditation and the most powerful for health is using your mental attention to watch your breathing process In Taoist parlance this is referred to as uniting energy and spirit The Hara system is built entirely on this The other vital element is learning to separate your self from your thoughts and emotions That is, you stop identifying yourself with the mental noise within This allows you to slowly sink into the depths of your being to access a deeper and more profound level of consciousness At this new level of consciousness youre extraordinarily alert and not distracted by conscious thought Again, this allows the parasympathetic nervous system to kick in and further calm your whole organism In many ancient martial art systems, the way of teaching people to attain this level of consciousness was by having the master sneak up on his pupils and clobber them repeatedly (!) At first, the pupil gets paranoid and freezes up. Experience teaches him, though, that when he freezes up, he just gets hit more often. Eventually, he figures out that only by resting in a state of total open awareness, undisturbed by thoughts, does he have any hope of anticipating and deflecting the surprise attacks

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 This leads to a clear knowledge of the ego-the false self-identity manufactured mainly out of fear (which, according to all ancient traditions, is the source of all our suffering) There is no true Freedom or true health while in the grip of the ego Calming internally has a huge physiological effect It is a natural form of detoxification, greatly enhances immune response and leaves you invulnerable to stress and anxiety Since it is the natural condition of the human person, there is no happiness without it So find a simple, powerful and authentic meditation system and practice it for at least 30 minutes a day see the resource section for further suggestions

Pillar 5: Programming
This could also be called "deprogramming" This means identifying deeply ingrained mental patterns detrimental to you: fears, doubts, false beliefs, emotional obstacles, etc. This also includes all of our petty addictions, pet peeves, etc. As well as our strongly held opinions about things like politics, religion and all manner of other things Authentic ancient traditions teach that all of this strongly held opinion is a huge energy drain: it takes an enormous amount of energy to prop up our view of the world as for petty addictions, they suck your energy and compromise your health Fears, doubts and low self-esteem limit your choices in life and suck your energy Emotional obstacles sabotage relationships, including romantic relationships, family relationships and relationships with friends and colleagues This whole edifice of preprogrammed failure is what we have to dismantle First, we need methods to erase the existing programming: There are many methods out there, such as EFT, NLP, hypnosis and others. Pillar 4 helps with programming gradually and naturally But for the acute stuff, the stuff that's hard to dislodge, I personally recommend EFT I could give you more complex Chinese medical theory about which organ system is linked to which emotion and how to modify your diet and exercise to deal with it But EFT, which is built on Chinese medical principles, is more effective, easier and faster As I said, there are various synthetic methods out there today and many of them have value. But for now, I recommend EFT because it's a proven commodity Page 15 of 22

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 However, calming has to be firmly anchored in your lifestyle If it is not, then even what you temporarily eliminate, using EFT or whatever other method, will come back Once you have begun to dislodge ingrained emotional content that you no longer want or need, you then need to turn your attention to replacing it And this is what programming refers to: you program into yourself useful emotional patterns NLP is very useful for this purpose, although for much of it you really don't need a particular method This involves assimilating patterns of thought and behavior that have a healthy, transformative effect on you For example, instead of a previous pattern of dreading the day or complaining about your circumstances, you train yourself to give thanks In other words, you just decide that every day when you get up in the morning and before you go to bed at night and perhaps one or two other occasions during the day you will give thanks for every blessing in your life That's not so much of method as a simple decision And you have to really feel the thankfulness, the gratitude Here's something that may sound absurd: smile! Smiling, the physiological act of changing the way your facial muscles are set, will increase your level of happiness and have an immediate effect on your mood Instead of a pattern of anger or irritation, you train yourself to be a source of blessing You resolve that no one will leave your presence without feeling joy and comfort You train your mind to think kindly of others, to love them and pray for them As long as stillness is in place, these practices over time can completely remake your inner world and contribute greatly to building health A corollary is to avoid what is mentally and emotionally harmful: Avoid disturbing or violent images in the media Avoid images a stimulate cravings In fact, avoid the mental trash of the daily media as much as you possibly can Take back control of your internal world by controlling the input This makes a huge difference to your physical health and to your overall happiness It goes beyond our scope here to talk about spiritual life, a misused term today in any event But all authentic ancient traditions agree that there is no true life and no true health in the absence of spiritual life You can read more about this in my recent book, The 5 Pillars of Life: Reclaiming Ownership of Your Mind, Body and Future (How Ancient

PART 2: Michael Morningstars Notes

This is about planning to eat healthily, planning to shop and how to prepare your food How do you get great ideas about meal planning? Get great recipe books. Stick to health-oriented recipe books of the last 10 years or so. Your grandmas favorite cookbook is not where you want to go many of the recipes will likely be very unhealthy. Visit my website: www.greatnewscoach.com. The site has lots of free resources for you and links to some excellent products. Going to any type of health show or health expo is a great place to find inspiration, recipes and meet like-minded people Specialty groups are popping up locally in many cities on topics like raw food, vegetarianism, etc. Such groups usually have regular meetings and can really help your health knowledge and practice. The basic idea here is to eat whole foods that are not refined, require minimal preparation and are lightly cooked, at most. Planning is imperative: you need menus laid out days in advance. This will save you lots of time and keep you organized. You can see sample menus on my website Indian Ayurvedic Medical Theory - Basics My health knowledge is built heavily on the Indian Ayurvedic paradigm. This system recognizes 3 different body/personality types, as well as hybrids combining elements of any two. These types are called doshas in Ayurvedic medicine. The 3 primary doshas are vata, pitta and kapha Vata: thin, quick thinking, fast talking needs heavy and sweet foods. Pitta: fiery people who are leaders voracious appetite, some sweet foods, but lots of water rich foods like green leafy veggies Kapha supportive, steady, but gain weight equally wont care if they miss a meal

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 There are lots of websites and books on Ayurveda that will give you a more detailed description of the doshas Much of health comes down to learning to listen to your body I wasnt brought up to do this, so by the age of 35 I had all kinds of minor health challenges headaches, low energy, etc. I was on constant medication for one thing or another. I felt like I was falling apart. By learning the system Im teaching you tonight, I totally eliminated all these challenges, got off all my medications and today, at age 53, Im in better shape than I was a 20. Ive even completed four marathons in recent years. Dr. Deepak Chopras books are highly recommended, by the way Whole food sweets are best for vatas and kaphas who need them You want to sprout your grains to deactivate the enzymes that inhibit digestion. This is a far healthier way to consume grain than by eating any commercial cereals even most of the allegedly healthy ones. You need to understand the body types of your whole family in order to plan their meals effectively this takes a while to do but its a fun process. Get them all engaged. Symeons approach is built on Chinese medicine, which uses a different terminology to describe body types. Both are very good systems; you just need to pick one and stick with it. Food Combining: Food combining is vital: if you do not combine food properly, youll end up with poor digestion, low energy and the very dangerous and largely unseen colon problems that Symeon described in some detail last night. Food combining: The first step is to chew thoroughly nothing can substitute for this. Dont inhale your food! Food has measurable megahertz of energy Dead food doesnt have this. This is part of the energetic quality of food; a dimension thats somewhat foreign to the more chemical western approach. Western science is only now beginning to understand this. Disease starts with an organ deficiency in this life force Fresh, organic, unprocessed veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains are the basic building blocks. Carbohydrate digestion starts in the mouth, meat digestion in the stomach, while some fruits are absorbed in the intestines If you compromise digestion by poor food combining, you get big problems Unleavened, sprouted grain bread is best bread Fruit with nuts and seeds is okay Daily Meal Planning: Big dinners are not a great idea your stomach should be empty when you go to bed. Digestion requires tremendous energy, and if your body is still heavily engaged in the first stages of the digestive process when you go to bed, this will more than likely interrupt your sleep patterns and leave you feeling sluggish in the morning. Big breakfasts with eggs, meat and toast, etc., are not a good idea

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 Breakfast should be light and uncooked Lunch should be the biggest meal of the day and it often still is in many cultures Your digestive system is at its peak at noon Your piece of meat or fish should be no bigger than the palm of your hand We eat too much meat and too much at each sitting Not good for you OR the environment (raising animals for slaughter is very hard on the environment and feeds far fewer people per acre than growing food for humans on the same amount of land). Many of the animals are now corn fed, which is unnatural for them Corn makes cattle sick, so antibiotics are necessary High quality dairy, like meat, must come from grass-fed animals Also, you should not consume pasteurized dairy products Use plants like broccoli and legumes for protein Broccoli is 22-27% protein Lettuce, kale, cabbage, etc., have lots of protein too Light snacks: flax seed crackers, Essene bread with honey Or tea and fruit Dinner: a salad, coleslaw (with a natural dressing) Shopping: Grocery stores, health food stores, farmers markets Have a shopping list before you go shopping Focus on local foods, in season foods and organic foods Stay away from GMO and GE foods Eat the grape seeds Eat watermelon seeds Lemon, orange and grapefruit seeds can be eaten Pumpkin seeds are great and so is pumpkin itself Nuts and seeds: only buy raw ones. Never eat roasted ones they are toxic and their oils are rancid. Thats why sugar and salt are used on roasted nuts and seeds Find stores that let you shop in bulk Asian stores (Indian, Chinese, etc.) are great places to shop Some of the sea veggies, like nori, kelp, dulse, are super foods Goji berries are a super food You need herbs every day not just for flavor Ayurveda talks about needing 6 tastes in every meal Sour like cheese, grapefruit Salty like sea veggies, Pungent like chili, cayenne, etc. Bitter like green leafy stuff like lettuce, kale, etc. Astringent like beans, lentils, Middle Eastern food is very good Tabouleh, hummus, baba ghanouj Page 20 of 22

Health Mastery 101 With Dr. Symeon Rodger and Michael Morningstar March 5-6, 2007 Ancient grains are good soak them for 8 hours Theyre better than using bulgar wheat and can take the place of bulgar in salads like tabouleh Preparation: Juicing: unhealthy sometimes, since it eliminates the natural fiber that nature intended you to consume. The fiber is there by design to slow down the absorption of the natural sugars into your system. Juice you buy comes from uncertain quality fruit, seeds have been taken out, fiber taken out and the pith (white fibrous material) taken out too. Unfortunately, much of the nutritional value is in the things that have been removed! Pasteurized or frozen foods are largely dead theyre acidic and not good for you Juice organic whole fruit But blending it is better, since you get all the nutritious parts Juicing is better for green veggies Vita Mix is a great super-blender (Symeon has been using one for years as well) Energy elixir recipes on my website are free Essential oils in outer layers of oranges and lemons is very good for you Seeds or nuts, green leafy veggies can go in these drinks Overcooked fish or meat is very hard to digest Many cultures used to eat raw meat and fish Dont drink cold substances it compromises your digestive fire, as the Chinese say. Youre better off with room temperature or warm beverages. Dont drink much with your meals it dilute the digestive process Blend your soups and then lightly warm it up, but not past 115 degrees F Soak your beans and lentils ahead of time in many cases you can get them soft enough that you wont have to boil them (which kills their nutritional value) Dehydrator: a box with trays that plugs in and heats to a low temperature This allows you to dry out food while retaining its nutritional value. The food then keeps far longer. Natives around the world used this idea to make crackers that last for months (and used the same methods with meat and fish) You can make dried fruits with it This was a way to have fruit, grain and meat during winter Other Key Information: Calcium Bentonite clay: this helps pull out toxins and you should use it regularly, both internally and externally. See the link to Lion Legacy on my website. Often necessary to make emotional shifts in order to start eating healthy Using EFT, NLP, etc. can really help accelerate this process Chocolate is a great food, by the way, but only if its raw chocolate
