THE SUN

The Sun is a star at the center of the solar system. It is a star because it gives out light and heat. The Sun is our nearest star and the engine for all live on Earth. It consists of a ball of hot gases with nuclear reaction. The Sun is the biggest in the solar system. It was found 4.5 billion years ago. Sun is a medium size star.

THE EARTH

The placement of Earth in the solar system makes it a perfect planet to support life. It receives enough light and heat from the Sun. The Earth spins on its axis like a spinning wheel. This spinning motion is called rotation. The Earth rotates from west to east. It takes 24 hours to make one complete rotation. It takes one year to make one complete movement around the Sun. This movement is called a revolution. The temperature of the Earth is suitable to support life because it is not too cold, nor too hot, The Earths surface contains enough water for the survival of living things. The atmosphere of Earth consists of gases in the correct composition to support life.

THE MOON
Like

the Earth the Moon also rotates on its axis from west to east. While rotating on its axis, it also revolves round the Earth. The time taken for the Moon to make one rotation is the same as the time taken for it to go around the Earth. Therefore, from the Earth, we always see the same side of the Moon.

DAY AND NIGHT

The

rotation of the Earth on its axis takes place at all times. However, the position of the Sun is always fixed. Half of the Earth is facing the Sun. This part of the Earth receives sunlight and experiences day. Half of the Earth is facing away from the Sun. This part of the Earth does not receive sunlight and therefore is in darkness
