Message from the Director

Nostalgia brings back moments to share rich and cherished experiences spent at your alma mater. Every two years the department of Personnel Management at XISS prepares fervently for Nostalgia the grand reunion cum felicitation ceremony. The event is a confluence of corporate stars and ideas, as our alumni from across the globe come to their alma mater to reaffirm the bond they share with the institute and relive the moments spent in the institute. XISS has a glorious past. Over the years, the institute has developed a culture of its own creating a place among top-notch B-schools in the country. Since its inception, XISS has been instrumental in developing managers with exceptional caliber and skill as Business leaders, entrepreneurs, change agents for society, and academicians wherever our alumni have gone, they have proved that they are Professionals with a Difference. This event will act as a platform to further strenghthen the profound bonds between the present and past students and their alma mater. To my mind the essence of a great institute lies in three things: great staff, great students and a great alumni network and I am of the firm opinion that a close bond between the three is a must for long lasting relationships.

Fr. Alex Ekka S.J.

Director

I am enormously proud of our Institute and the way it has evolved. As we grow and tread on the path to success, so will everyone associated with us. I Iook forward to your cooperation and support in making this event a grand success.

Message from the H.O.D.

Nostalgia is the Alumni Reunion and Felicitation conceptualized to acknowledge and reward a sense of affinity and belongingness that our wonderful alumni have shown towards their alma mater. The occasion also provides an opportunity to the batches of yester years to reunite at the institute for a 2-3 event and bring back the fond memories of their stay here at their alma mater. The event is also a good opportunity for the sponsors to do a little branding at this Premier Institute in the field of Education in Human Resource Management. Nostalgia will be the confluence of the brightest stars from the field of Human Resource Management who will discuss issues of common concerns amongst themselves and help their corporations gain new insight into dealing with the most important resource in the field of business. I invite our esteemed prospective sponsors to participate in this event and in the process of helping us organize this event, help themselves too. An event of this magnitude would not materialize without the whole-hearted cooperation and support of your organization. I assure you that this is a win-win situation for both of us. The event would give your organization the visibility that it deserves, for it will project you in the midst of individuals who have been associated with numerous organizations, and who will definitely remember your support to the institute during Nostalgia. Wishing all of you good luck!

Xavier Insitute of Social Service (XISS)

Established in 1955, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) was originally an extension department of St. Xaviers College, Ranchi. XISS was created with the objective of training young men and women in Rural Development, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, creating bare-foot managers, the professionals with a difference. In the year 1973 XISS got registered as a separate educational society (under the Societies Registration Act, 1860), and moved to its present location in the year 1978. Over the years, the institute has developed its own distinct identity, as a centre of excellence. XISS has stood the test of time, continuously being ranked among the top notch B- Schools in the country. The Institute has created a niche for itself in the field of Management-Education & Research, Consultancy and Development Interventions. Right from its inception, XISS has given to the world a pool of management graduates with exceptional caliber and skill. Even a rough calculation reveals that ever since its inception this Institute has produced more than 3000 HR Professionals so far. Over years, the alumni of XISS have spread their roots not only in India but across the globe, occupying top notch positions in various corporate and non-corporate entities. XISS not only creates professionals, but creates professionals with a difference who are not only an asset to their organizations but also the society at large. The alumni of XISS have indeed done their alma-mater proud by excelling as Professionals, Business leaders, Entrepreneurs, Change agents for society, Academicians, Administrators and above all, appreciated and treasured folks.

Nostalgia

For us, the best time is always yesterday, for the heart wants what it wants, and theres no logic to those things. As much as we are a product of our brain, we are also equally a product of our emotions. College definitely happens to be one of the best epochs of our lives, and for some of us, probably the most preeminent one. As time passes by, we get immersed into our every day lives. Yet, we yearn for the good old days, recalling those beautiful moments whenever and wherever we can. Once a while, we surprisingly bump into an old college buddy, at one of our professional rendezvous, or just get to know from a common friend, about someone you couldnt stay in touch with after college. On all these moments, how quickly time seems to pass by; we wish we could make it linger a bit, or may be even make it stop. Take that time and join the old gang; have fun, make merry, laugh, may be break into a jig without caring if the world notices. But, time waits for none; all we are left with is a few spurs of nostalgia. Nostalgia is the get-together of XISS family that strengthens our XISS bonds, fosters camaraderie among the present and old students, and cherishes those old memories of the alma mater. Nostalgia is that platform which facilitates the confluence of present and future HR professionals and more importantly the alumni and present students of the institute.

Nostalgia 09
Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose. Nostalgia 09 the homecoming event of XISS Personnel Management alumni, held on the 14th and 15th of November, 2009 was a confluence of corporate stars and ideas, as our alumni from across the globe came once again to their alma mater to rekindle the bond that they share with the institute. Under the excellent stewardship of the Director, Fr. Alexius Ekka S.J., Fr. Dr. Ranjit Toppo S.J. and the HOD of the PM Department, Prof. S.R. Shauq, began Nostalgia 09 with paying homage to Fr. Michael Windy S.J., the First Director of XISS and Rev. Fr. M. Vd. Bogaert S.J., Ex-Director. The two day extravaganza event witnessed the presence of the Guest of Honor Mr. Ashok Chattaraj (CMD, Siesta Hospitality Services Limited). Mr. Jayant Basu (VP-HR, United Breweries Group) Mr. Rajneesh Singh (Group Head-HR, Network 18), Mrs. S. Bhagat Retd. Assistant professor, Prof. Biswas Retd. Course Director of Personnel Management Department, Mr. Nadeem Kazim (Director-HR, Exide Industries), Mr. Pramod Kumar (AGM IR, TATA Motors), Mr. Baldev Singh Khalsi (Deputy chief Labour Commissioner, Central Government), Mr. V.B. Lal (VP-HR, HR and Administration, Moserbaer), Mr. Abhyanand Pathak (Deputy G.M. BCCL, Dhanbad) and many more alumni. This homecoming meet strengthens the bond of the HR fraternity of XISS. Nostalgia 09 hosted a multitude of programs which ranged from speeches by the distinguished alumni to trekking and picnic, various dance presentations to skits which was reminiscent of their good old days. I always knew I would look back on my tears and laugh but I never thought I would look back on laughter and cry said one of our alumni with moist eyes and deep feelings which he felt remembering his good old days spent at XISS at Nostalgia 09. The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again and so our alumni parted only to meet once again.
