The genre of this film is the human monster.

This is shown through the use of sound, typography and editing. The sound within the title sequence is eerie with light drumming sound whilst in the foreground there are deep choir ahh s which slowing incline to a higher pitch. With every quick cut there is a deep, ominous boom. This could emphasis the micro-naps that occur towards the end of the film to the characters. it could also be symbolic of the feeling you get when suddenly coming out of a dream into reality which what must happen to bring Freddy out of the dream world in order to defeat him. The children s laughter emphasises that what Freddy did was to innocent children and to create more emphasis on what he did was wrong. It also highlights that key information of this film is that it is related to children. Also there are camera shutter noises edited onto some of the quick cuts, this alludes to the corrupt pictures Freddy took of the children.

The typography of the credits is very creative as it shows the split between reality and the dream-world, which includes Freddy. The clear differentiation is made by the letters in the foreground being perfectly clear and white which could represent the purity of the awakened state until the horror s from their dream-world came and corrupted it. The dream-world is shown through the words being etched/ scratched into concrete behind the clear words. It is suggested that this may have been done by Freddy s claws . The fact that the scratched in letters are always behind the clear words could suggest that the memories of their childhood had always been there but Freddy just made them clearer.

The editing of these titles mostly consists of quick cuts between bleak images and pictures to things associated with children. Such as building blocks, hop-scotch and jump ropes. Fire gradually engrosses the images of the child building blocks as the images get darker as the titles progress which could represent how the need for sleep gets heavier and heavier as the victim refuses to sleep. The main focus of the building block pictures in a block which shows and upside down 5, this is the age when the abuse from Freddy started, it is also when the children told. Another building block that is focused on is a unicorn, unicorns are a mythological animal that does not exist in reality, just like the Boogie Man which is a man that invades your dreams and turns them into nightmares. This is exactly what Freddy does therefore reflecting the fact that he doesn t exist in reality anymore and he will not survive if brought back into reality. There is also a school picture in which gradually throughout the title sequence each child s face is crossed out. This shows how Freddy is gradually throughout the film going to kill them all.
