“The Prince of the Celestial Chivalry is St. Michael: heis the conqueror in the great and invisible battle in which were vanquished those vassals of God who one day revolted against the Sovereign Lord. I hope, my son, that you and I will soongo together, and perform the pilgrimage of 'St. Michael de Peril de la Mer,' for the archangel isthe great patron, not only of chivalry, but of the whole of France.”“
And there was a great battle in heaven, Michael and his angels fought with the dragon, and the dragon fought and his angels: And they prevailed not, neither was their place found anymore in heaven.
” (Apocalypse 12:7-8) St. Michael is indeed a great prince of Chivalry. Thereare many knights who were devoted to this Archangel. Firstly Holy Scripture attests to the zealthat St. Michael had for the Lord. “
And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying: Now is comesalvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: becausethe accuser of our brethren is cast forth, who accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of the testimony, and they loved not their lives unto death.
”(Apocalypse 12:10-11) St. Michael attests to the fact thathis brethren, knights & soldiers, overcame their enemies by giving their lives for the Catholicfaith in battle, “
they loved not their lives unto death.
But I will tell thee what is set down in the scripture of truth: and none is my helper in all these things, but Michael your prince.
