    The recently founded Marine Biological Association of India marks an important phase in the development -- fisheries research in our country. It correspomh of not only to a period of growing interest in the subject bur also to the time of our country's pressing demand of exploitation, conservation and management of fishery resources. The seas and their resources have attracted increasing world attention in recent years. It is noteworthy that our Indian scientists are also taking such valuable steps towards the advancement of our knowledge about the Indian waters. I am very happy to welcome the inaugural issue of the Association's Journal. I most sincerely congratulate the President of the Association on the production of such an outstanding Journal and wish the Association every success.
