So I’m on my way to El Torito,because a part of my overall

ying into the street and I beginto hear the threatening sound of a 25-knot breeze that wants tobuild.I was near the mast-up storagefacility and I

gured I shouldgo in and make sure thingswere secure with the boat I keepthere.As the gate opened I couldsee the wind was abusing thatplace. I don’t know how hardit was blowing but furlers wereunraveled all over the joint,shackles were slamming thealuminum masts angrily andsome of the boats were rollingaround the place as if they weretrying to escape.I dropped my headsail (thatde

nitely would have beentorched), double checked thechocks by the trailer wheels andlooked around to see if therewas any way I could help myabsentee neighbors.One boat’s jib was about to comeundone and I thought aboutclimbing up and rolling it in butI don’t know how his stuff worksand was worried I’d do somethingto make things worse. Down therow a McGregor 25 had rolledinto another little cruising boatwhile a bunch of other boatswere turned sideways. I didnothing to help there either. Itwas spooky in there – many of the boats seemed like mindlesszombies creeping all over thegrounds. I could swear I heardsome of them moaning.After seeing more boatsthat were moving about bythemselves, instead of helping,I decided the place was hauntedand left. I know that’s probablynot the right thing to do, butboats rolling around on land ina howling wind on a dark nightunder their own power give methe willies…
