Researching the Beverage Industry

Periodicals fall into three basic categories.

1) Popular (or consumer) periodicals, including:


 general interest magazines
 newspapers

2) Scholarly (or academic) journals


 Most articles are peer-reviewed

3) Trade publications
 Written about a particular business or industry

How can you tell


the difference?
Scholarly Journals Popular Magazines
1. Readers have knowledge of subject area 1. Intended for a general audience with

Requesting Library Materials from Main Campus
Fowler Center students pick up and drop off
materials at Debra Weisbach’s office,
Community Education Division, 6th Floor.

Option 1: Place request using SpartaCat Worksheet Part 3


1. Search for item you want to borrow using Library’s online catalog (SpartaCat).
2. Click “Keep” button to create list of items you want to have delivered.
3. When list is finished, click “Kept” in dark blue toolbar, then click blue “View” button.
4. Highlight and right-click to copy book information.
5. Click “Request Material” in gray toolbar.
6. Right-click and paste book information into “Comment” box.
7. Type your name, phone number and “Send to Fowler Center” in “Comment” box.
8. Type your student ID number in “User ID” box.
9. Click “Send” button.
Option 2: Send e-mail request to “Ask the NCC Librarian” mailbox
1. Using SpartaCat, get author, title and call number of each item you wish to borrow.
2. Click “Ask the NCC Librarian” on Library’s home page.
3. Send e-mail with your name, phone number, student ID number, e-mail address and
book information to Librarians.
Option 3: Phone request to Library’s Circulation Desk, 610-861-5360
1. Using SpartaCat, get author, title and call number of each item you wish to borrow.
2. Call Library; give staff your name, phone number, student ID and book information.
