A PICTORIAL REVIEW OF THE 1999 NRPA CONGRESS & EXPOSITION IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE Rip Wilkinson (NRPA Chairman-Elect), Eric O'Brien (NRPA Chairman), Ted Flickinger (NRPA President) and Dean Tice (NRPA Executive Director) participate in the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the 1999 NRPA Exhibit Hall. NRPA's Job Mart offers a variety of career opportunities. The sights and sounds of an NPRA Exhibit Hall are plentiful. Delegates were treated to the largest exhibit trade show ever in the history of NRPA. The NRPA Year of Service Campaign kicked-off with a Day of Service event at the Two Rivers Park and Mansion. More than 400 attendees planted trees, cleared scrub brush, started a community garden, visited the Nickelodeon Big Helpmobile, and attended a rally for parks and recreation. Among the participants: (top to bottom) Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell; Vera Vollbrecht, Nashville Metro Parks event coordinator; Jim Fyke, Director, Nashville Metro Parks; Mary Wherry, Nashville local host committee chair and; John Crompton, NRPA Public Awareness Committee Chairman. Thanks to the efforts of more than 150 local children and the Nickelodeon Big Helpmobile (below) the event was a tremendous success. The traditional tree planting ceremony by NRPA's Citizen Board Member branch was continued with a ceremony at Two Rivers Park and Mansion. Metro Nashville Director Jim Fyke, NRPA President Ted Flickinger, CBM President Evelyn Umbach, Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell, and NRPA Chairman Eric O'Brien pose in front of the tree and plaque. The Wynona Concert at the Nashville Arena was the highlight of a "night out" in downtown Nashville. The APRS Auction was a fun time for all. The NRPA Pavilion, featuring the NRPA National Programs Booth, enabled delegates to see the latest offerings from NRPA headquarters and regional offices. The NRPA Active Parks Cyber Cafe allowed delegates to see the newest and most exciting initiative of NRPA--a new interactive Web site for members and the public. More than 250 educational sessions were offered at the Congress and delegates took

advantage of all that was provided. The Opening General Session was held at the historic Grand Ole Opry and featured spectacular entertainment, wonderful words of wisdom from ESPN Sports Anchor Robin Roberts, and the induction of Gene Young to Life Trustee of NRPA. The Closing General Session featured NRPA's many award winners including (top to bottom) the 1999 National Award winners. NRPA Awards Co-Chair Ron Lehman, NPRA President-Elect Bob Hail and NRPA President Ted Flickinger all participated in this gala event.
