L-A Cardinal¶s 44Attack Defense
There¶s sure to be at least one manassigned to block you: SEE THATHE FAILS!

W
e will attack and place great pressure on the offense!
W
e do this inorder to cause the offense to have to react to us, instead of running their offense the way they would like to. This attacking style creates chaos.Chaos creates confusion; confusion creates doubt; doubt creates breakdown. Attacking allows us to set the tempo and to take away thingswe want by forcing the defense to adjust to us.Great effort and physical play stem from great peaks of emotion. Theseattributes describe a defensive football player. Emotion is a by-product of attitude; effort is a by-product of desire and the willingness to make playsand find the football. Playing physical is football. It is not somethingspecial in our eyes; it is what football is ±a collision activity. It is a stateof mind. This is the essence of our spirit. A warrior will go to battleanywhere, at any time and
love
it.
W
e will get fired-up about great plays, but for the most part, if you thump a guy and leverage his effort«it¶swhat you are supposed to do. All we have to do is light people up, penetrate whatever gap or cover whatever guy we¶re assigned, knock  people on their fannies and stick the quarterback every down. Now that¶sfun, and that¶s what our defensive football team will be about.
W
hat we will do is attack and demand that the offense defends us. Our signature as a defensive football team will be fast, fierce, and fun.
W
ewill explode up the field, unload on anybody in our way to the ball, andlaugh our way to the sidelines as the offense comes onto the field.
Cardinal Defensive Philosophy

Concepts That Make Us an Attacking DefenseDefensive linemen always attack a gap.
W
e are a penetrating, read-on-the-run team.
W
e will switch the responsibilities of each defender tokeep the O from having a playbook44 to block.
W
e use multiple fronts to confuse blocking schemeswithout having to change the system.
W
e ³fast flow´ play side by reading ball flow and attack.Once the play has been fully determined we pursue with alleleven men until the whistle blows.
W
e will blitz any backer from almost anywhere at almostany time!
W
e will be very aggressive in our blitz packagewith the idea that we will cause many more mistakes thanwe make.
W
e will place great stress on the quarterback! He will notknow where we are coming from or when. See the first paragraph on chaos.Many repetitions in tackling in closed and open fieldsituations will give us the confidence and ability to movefaster to an offensive player before breaking down tomake a tackle.
