Dear Parents,Last week was a very specialweek with Halloween and all of thefestivities. Our party was very fun andthe children enjoyed making crafts,eating apples, hearing stories, and playing musical chairs.We have come back from RedRibbon week and Halloween to intensecurriculum studies in reading, in math,and in phonics.We have been busy with readingtests as well as the regular curriculum.We are still working on making anextensive holiday project with our sixthgrade buddies. The students gatheredleaves on the last dry morning to use ona segment of our project.

. This week we have read aselection about brothers and sisters, anda story about a girl who gets a Carouselfor her birthday. We will begin readinganother class book about Mrs. Jeepersand the Bailey School students.

words with short and long vowelsounds. Our spelling test reviewsshort words that add “ing” to theendings. We are learning some rulesabout how a second vowel affects thefirst vowel in a word.
In math we are still reviewingtime in 15 (quarter to andquarter past), 30 (half past), and 45 minuteincrements. We are also learningrounding numbers for estimation. Therule is that numbers 4 and below,round down and the numbers 5 andabove, round up. We also reviewedvocabulary words: greater than, lessthan, least, fewest, greatest, and most.We are reviewing money also. Thereis some regrouping in our addition problems.
The children are extremelyfun to teach. They are bright, sweet,and quick to learn the concepts taught.They also have the most delightfulthings to say.
