Description

This consists of a set of 60 slides I developed for a lecture at Hyderabad in December 2007. The effort here is to trace the status of astronomy before the Siddhantic period. This is what may be called Vedic Astronomy. It is not the calendrical Vedanga-jyotisha, which should ahve taken a long time to evolve from the Rigvedic (Lunar) eclipse period number 3339. Tracing the origins of Hindu astronomy has been fascinating. New results will unfold if only the Rigveda is studied from the perspective of the visible ancient sky and the word Dhuma-ketu is interpreted literally for what it is namely the COMET
