January 2012
During the month of December, our focus wason the “BALANCE” key. Wetalked about balanceddiets and lifestyles. Thismonth, we have selectedJacob as our student-of-the-month winner! Duringthe month of February, wewill focus on the“Commitment” key. Withthe start of a new year wewill have opportunities toset some new goals,develop action plans, andstick with it when itbecomes difficult toaccomplish goals. We’lllearn that it’s important tobe reliable, stick to ourword, and finish whatwe’ve started.
We will return to ourregular homework routinethis month. With theexception of the week of January 16
whenhomework is due onThursday, Friday willremain our regular duedate. Please continue toread the weekly checklistpage for special homeworkinstructions and contactus for homework helpwhen needed.

In February we will havetwo opportunities to goskating. Look for moreinformation coming homesoon regarding thesedays. Students will needtheir own skates in orderto participate. Let usknow in advance (ASAP)and we can try to assist infinding a pair to borrow.Students without skatescan stay at school andparticipate in alternativeactivities or share thephotographer job at thearena.
We hope you enjoyed thereindeer ornament giftyour child made for you.We sent these ornamentsto our 1st quadbloggingpartners in the UK andFlorida as well! We alsohope you liked yourChristmas postcard yourchild created for you. Wemade postcards for 30other classrooms aroundNorth America as part of the Holiday CardExchange Project. Reflective Writingabout 2011
 In our final week before thewinter break the students wrotea reflective blog post about theirbest memories, learning, andaccomplishments of the pastyear. For many of our studentsthat are in the class for theirsecond year, the writing progressseen in this post compared tosimilar ones written back inJanuary is phenomenal! Our ConcertPerformance:
We hope you enjoyed our videopresentation for our winterconcert (and your own personalcopy). We really enjoyed creatingour digital dance. The studentsselected the song and poses forthe pictures that we used for theproject. Ms. Watt, our technologysupport teacher, showed us howto do stop motion animationusing Frames 4 (a new Ministrylicensed software). We had a lotof fun creating it and are reallyproud of the final product!
Just prior to the break, our classhosted a very exciting onlinegame of “Name that HolidayTune” using Adobe Connect tobroadcast out to other classes.We had 6 other classes fromRyerson joining us to listen to 30song clips. Some clips were reallyeasy to guess, some clips wereharder. We had so much funusing technology to play thisfestive game!We finished our first round of quadblogging with our friends inthe United Kingdom and Florida.We are beginning a new round of quadblogging, with new partnersall located in the United Kingdom,starting the week of January 16
.We’ll follow a similar four-weekrotation, visiting each other’sblogs to leave comments andlearn from each other. Thispartnership will last until the endof March.
