Dr. Antonio L. Betancourt Bio Dr. Antonio L. Betancourt is the Secretary General of the Summit Council for World Peace, an association of former heads of state and government established in 1981. He also serves as President of the World Institute for Development and Peace, a think tank devoted to economic and social justice and resource developer on ideas and technologies to address more effectively the problems of poverty. Dr. Betancourt serves as Secretary General of the Middle East Peace Initiative (MEPI), which since 2003 has sent more than 10,000 Ambassadors for Peace from around the world for interfaith peace-building in Israel, the Occupied Territories, and Jordan. He has worked extensively in the fields of international affairs, interreligious dialogue, and international conflict resolution. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President of the International Security Council, a Washington, DC-based defense and foreign policy think tank, and was Executive Editor of Global Affairs, its quarterly journal.
