FTP: File Transfer Protocol
It is standard mechanism provided by TCP/IP for copyinga file from one host to another.
Problems during File transfer:
- Two systems may use different file name conventions.- Two systems may have different ways to represent textand data.- Two systems may have different directory structures.All these problems have been solved by FTP in verysimple way.FTP is different than other client/server programs.- It establishes two connections between hosts.- One is used for 
data transfer 
and- Other is used for 
control information
(commands andresponses).
 
FTP: File Transfer Protocol
FTP uses the services of TCP, it needs two connections.The well-known
port 21
is used for the control connection.The well-known
port 20
is used for the data connection.
Control connection
remains connected during the entireinteractive FTP session.
Data connection
is opened and then closed for each filetransferred.
